Westchase blends suburbia with city living. Within its 4-square-mile pocket of West Houston, it houses 17 million square feet of office space, 48 apartment complexes and a range of single-family residences. Businessman and rancher Robert "Bob" Smith owned and occupied the land in the '50s when it was used as cattle pasture. With a vision of what it might become, he sold his acreage off to corporations and developers. The area grew infinitely after the Sam Houston Tollway was built in the 80s, and it became an official business district in 1995. Entrepreneurs thrive in Westchase, and major corporations like Mattress Firm have relocated their headquarters here. The city has an industrial feeling, but as it grows both in industry and community, it engages in beautification projects that deepen its suburban roots. Residents are well connected to all of Houston with convenient access to Westpark Tollway and West Sam Houston Tollway.

Welcome to Westheimer Road
"Westchase is always growing and changing," says Kasra Persian Grill owner Adam Parsa. "When we opened our store, Books-a-Million was across the Street. Now it's Tesla." His father, Morty, opened the restaurant in 1999. Their most popular dish is the kabab koobideh — a beef skewer kabob served over basmati rice. "Not many people knew about Persian food when we opened, but now people from all walks of life eat here." The grill, several other restaurants, H-E-B, Trader Joe's and the Westchase Shopping Center with its Target, Petco and more are all conveniently located along the city's main thoroughfare Westheimer Road. Westheimer Road also hosts the farmers market on Thursdays. Ashley Barker of PEAS Farm has sold here for its entire 10 year tenure. "I have watched couples raise their kids. It's nice to learn new things about their lives each week. The caring goes both ways." Her biggest hits are pickling cucumbers, yellow squash, and plump tomatoes.

Bus stops along Richmond Avenue
The area is somewhat walkable. As locals stroll along the city's streets, they'll notice bright pops of color, as utility boxes have been painted with tiny murals — a part of the city's ongoing beautification projects. Cypress trees and live oaks have also been planted along Westheimer Road. The Westchase Metro Park and Ride has bus stops along that same road, Walnut Bend Lane and Westheimer Road taking locals to over 120 stops in and around Houston. There are plenty of gas stations. There is a few small corner stores. There is a clean target. There is a Wal-Mart near. Three grocery stores near. There us a Walgreens but their service was slow, so I now use target pharmacy with no complaints; their great. Everything I need is in this area.

I love the convenience of this location, everything I need is within walking or minor driving distance. My only complaint is that my school is downtown, and commuting is difficult without a car and sometimes feels unsafe for the distance and questionable people that are commonly walking around downtown.
