Even though Hurstbourne is located about 13 miles east of Louisville, Kentucky, life here is more reminiscent of some imaginary English countryside- and that's not just because of street names like Oxfordshire Lane and Nottingham Parkway. The Hurstbourne neighborhood is known for both its elegant homes and the prestigious country club around which it was built. Residents can often be found enjoying leisurely activities like golf or pickle ball just steps away from their homes, or relaxing outside in large backyards and in-ground pools. Plus, “The location is incredible,” says Barrett Goff, a local broker who has been selling homes throughout the greater Louisville since 2018. “It’s close to great malls and interstates that make it really easy to get around.” Hurstbourne is also by major roads like Hurstbourne Parkway and Shelbyville Road, so most of the area's shopping and other destinations are right around the corner from home. With Downtown Louisville being just minutes away, Hurstbourne residents can quickly get into the city for work or to simply take in the best of the city's sights and sounds, while still having a friendly community and plenty of peace and quiet to come home to at the end of the day.
Elegant Hurstbourne homes with classical designs
Marked by expansive lawns, shady oak trees and charming classical architecture, just walking through Hurstbourne gives a pleasant glimpse of the peaceful life the neighborhood is known for. Though there are often no sidewalks, residential roads are quiet enough for kids to safely play outside or older residents to get a bit of exercise outside. Lots in the neighborhood are "Large and pleasing to the eye," says Craig Barker, a local Realtor who works right across the street. "Even though there's no HOA, all the homes are really well-maintained; it just comes down to pride in ownership," says Barker. In terms of style, Tudor, French influence and colonial revival are just a few of the diverse looks that make Hurstbourne homes all feel unique. Ornate facades showcasing columns, arches and other decorations can often be seen outside homes, while updated appliances, light-filled sunrooms and remodeled kitchen spaces are just a few of the improvements residents enjoy inside the home. And, even though the average sales price for these generous homes is just above the national average at about $565,000 dollars, Hurstbourne is becoming a "Hotbed for young families moving to the area," says Goff. At the lower end of the neighborhood's price range, smaller classic revivals in need of a few updates are being quickly purchased by young families for as low as $350,000 dollars. Once renovated, these homes can sell for as high as $650,000. Selling from $700,000 to $1 million dollars, larger estates in Hurstbourne often offer sophisticated architecture and amenities like backyard pools and patio space.

Afternoons at the Hurstbourne Country Club
In terms of getting active outside, Hurstbourne Country Club is the main amenity for residents of the neighborhood. "It has really high-end renovations on the inside, while also still keeping that original character on the outside, so it's a really nice space to be," says Goff. With a driving range, golf simulators, and a 27-hole Championship Course that's been ranked as one of the top courses in the state by Golf Digest, Hurstbourne Country Club is more than enough to satisfy the neighborhood's avid golf community. For more casual golfers and anyone looking for a fun time, Top Golf is another fun option where residents can be active while also enjoying a social atmosphere. Located right behind the Oxmoor Center, residents can practice aiming for targets on the driving range or order popular appetizers like chicken katsu sliders while hanging out with friends. Having just opened recently, "Top Golf has driven a lot more traffic to the nearby mall and more business to the neighborhood in general," says Goff. One other fun option for recreation is Blairwood Tennis, Swim & Fitness, a local club now owned by Genesis Health Clubs. This family-friendly facility offers lots of options for swimming, both indoor and outdoor, as well as tennis, group exercise and personal training.

Mouthwatering barbecue at Momma's
With a central location near some of the area's most popular roads, Hurstbourne residents have "Shopping, banking and restaurants galore right beyond their neighborhood," says Barker. In addition to chain locations like Jersey Mike's, the neighborhood has diverse dining options; Del Frisco's is a classic spot for steak and seafood, while Gustavo's features "World-class Mexican cuisine," says Barker. The Oxmoor Center, which locals call Oxmoor Mall, is another draw to the area. Residents can spend their day shopping at over 50 stores or take their pick of several restaurants. The Capital Grille is a fine dining option that sits right outside of the mall. Those looking for a more casual feel can visit Momma’s Mustard, Pickles & BBQ. This restaurant is highly recommended by Goff, who calls it a "Veritable goldmine." When cooking at home, locals can get their ingredients – and the rest of their groceries – at the Kroger in Plainview Village.

A central location for easy access throughout Louisville
Though Hurstbourne residents need their cars to get to and from home, the neighborhood's streets are still wide and quiet enough for peaceful evening walks or family bike rides through the neighborhood. And, with Watterson Parkway (Interstate 264) just west of the neighborhood and Interstate 64 just to the south, all of greater Louisville is within reach with just a short car ride. Those traveling out of state can find Louisville International Airport about 10 miles west along the Parkway, while, in the case of a medical emergency, Norton Healthcare St. Matthews can also be found right by the Parkway, about 4 miles from Hurstbourne.
