There was a time not too long ago when Hutto, Texas, was a wide-open prairie that was home to only the hardiest of souls. Then came the internet, and the city of Austin became one of the world's premiere tech hubs, and that city saw – and continues to see – explosive growth. The result is that Hutto has grown from its humble origins into a suburb of Austin that attracts professionals who work in the city but want to raise their families in a quieter, less crowded environment, and the Creekside neighborhood of Hutto is a prime landing spot for them. "I am seeing a lot of families moving here from Austin, especially people who work in the tech industry. They love their jobs but want to live outside the city and not have a terrible commute," says Kimberly Dale, a Realtor with Realty Texas and Hutto resident with over a decade of real estate experience in the area. The area is split into a handful of subdivisions that offer a broad range of housing options for prospective residents.

Brick homes in Creekside Estates and other contemporary builds
Creekside is split into a handful of subdivisions offering a range of housing options for prospective residents. New construction is available in abundance, along with homes built in the early 2000s with great curb appeal. Brick homes are common in the Creekside Estates neighborhood, whereas the Brookland subdivision has many contemporary properties. "Price points are a huge draw for people who are moving here," says Dale. Housing prices remain consistent throughout each subdivision, mostly between $300,000 and $450,000, with rental properties blended in.

The legend of Henrietta the Hippo
Arguably the most popular outdoor attraction in the area is the statue of Henrietta the Hippo, Hutto's mascot. According to local legend, a traveling circus stopped in Hutto in 1915, and a hippo took the opportunity to escape from the train carrying her. She high tailed it to Brushy Creek, which marks the southern side of Creekside. The ensuing chaos shut down rail service throughout the state while the hippo was lured back onto the train, a boarding process that took several hours. Today, Henrietta’s legend lives on, as visitors flock to have their picture taken with her statue on East Street.
