“Water all around – no get out.” That’s the meaning of Hypoluxo, a rough translation of the Seminole name for Lake Worth. This aptly named oceanside community is a haven for boating and fishing enthusiasts with its piers, docks, and nearby beaches. It is also stocked with green spaces, parks and a lively shopping and dining scene. Diverse housing styles and prime waterfront homes are a big appeal as well. Although South Florida is a popular destination for seasonal residents, Hypoluxo is different. "Tourists visit the marina to fish, but it's a full-time town. Mainly families here," says John Dolmetsch, owner of Hook'N Up Too, which has chartered fishing boats since 1992. "It's typically a slower town than most of South Florida."
Palm Beach Yacht Center, two piers
Boaters appreciate Hypoluxo’s prime access to the Palm Beach Yacht Center, Lake Worth Fishing Pier and Boynton Inlet Pier. The Hypoluxo Scrub Natural Area gives access to the paved Cottonweed Trail and the sandy Eastern Pondhawk Trail, but should be explored with caution. "Hypoluxo Scrub Natural Area is all wild,” says Marilyn Coppola a Senior Environmental Analyst with Palm Beach County's Environmental Resources Management. “There is no lighting, especially in the winter when it gets dark at 5:00 p.m. So, people must be careful," she says. Lantana Municipal Beach is just 2 miles away. Hypoluxo is also home to Garnett Park, San Castel Community Park with play equipment, walking trails and athletic courts.
