Indianola sits in a quiet pocket between the Port Madison Reservation to the west and the Puget Sound, hugging both the eastern and southern sides. “Indianola is a little bit off the beaten path, so it’s quieter and more serene,” says Tracy Wall, a RE/MAX Connect broker who has sold in the area for over seven years. “Indianola has a combo of lovely Mount Rainier views; it’s nicely wooded and has beautiful forest areas and some old farms.”
Constellations can be spotted along the 900-foot Indianola Pier in the Kitsap Peninsula. Picnickers and beach walkers admire the views of Mount Rainier across the water while kayakers and paddleboarders glide along the saltwater marsh. Dogs run free on Indianola Park’s open field, which neighbors the baseball field and picnic tables. The waters flow past the Indianola Waterfront Preserve’s beach and preserved woodland with undeveloped trails into Miller Bay. Between Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park's 65 miles of dirt trails, some with water views, and North Kitsap Heritage Park's 6 miles of trails, hikers and mountain bikers have path options in various difficulty levels. These 1980s and 1990s, waterfront, single-family homes are raised to combat potential flooding and may list between $991,000 and $1.7 million, depending on the property. “The community shifted from a vacation type of community where people only came in the summer to full-time with cottages and bungalows, and now two-story homes are going up in their place,” says Reverend David Collins, site director of Camp Indianola. Early 2000 split-levels and new traditionals sit next to ranch-style homes in the Miller Bay Estates subdivision, which is one of two subdivisions in the area, along with Jefferson Beach Estates. In both neighborhoods, single-story homes list between $395,000 and $460,000, while two-story homes start at roughly $455,000 and go up to $575,000. Jefferson Beach Estates’ amenities include Mavis Olson Community Park, a playground, and Jefferson Beach Park, an open, grassy space.
North Kitsap School District serves Indianola. Suquamish Elementary School earns a B-plus grade from Niche. Kingston Middle School receives a B-minus and has a STEM robotics program. Kingston High School maintains a B-plus grade.
Tree-lined Indianola Road Northeast and Kingston Street Northeast intersect in the neighborhood’s center. Both roads lead south to Shore Drive, which runs parallel to Port Madison. Kingston Road branches 5 miles northeast into Kingston, where ferry passengers journey to Edmonds and Seattle. Bus stops dot Indianola Road, which cuts northwest to Miller Bay Road for the 7-mile drive into Suquamish.
Some of the only businesses in the neighborhood are artist studios, which many craft out of their own homes for pottery and other sellable items, which they can display at local farmers markets. Since Indianola is midway between Kingston and Suquamish, other shops and restaurants are nearby. Indianola Country Store, in the neighborhood’s center, is the only place in town to grab sandwiches and groceries. Safeway is a 7-mile drive north outside Kingston’s row of local restaurants, which includes Kingston Ale House with pub food and the Grub Hut with fast casual meals and 29 milkshake flavors.
