Families can enroll kids in Jackson Public Schools or other districts in the surrounding Jackson County area. Cascades Elementary School opened in 2021 as Jackson Public Schools’ first new facility in more than 50 years. The school has a 13:1 student-teacher ratio and a C grade on Niche. Middle School at Parkside also earns a C grade. The B-plus-ranked Jackson High School offers dual enrollment, Advanced Placement classes, an early college program and career education for students interested in getting a head start on options after graduation. The Queen of the Miraculous Medal School is also in the neighborhood, just south of the church. The school offers classes for students from kindergarten to sixth grade and is unranked on Niche.
Cascades Elementary School serves over 400 students in southwest Jackson.

Many of Queens’ closest retail options are just west of the area, including the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store, which offers used books, furniture, clothing and other household items. Polly’s Country Market has a history of more than 90 years as a local grocer in Jackson, with the location on Spring Arbor Road nearby originally opening for business in 1971. Other retailers nearby include Rite Aid, Great Lakes Ace Hardware and Family Dollar. Additional shopping options are available northwest of the neighborhood at Westwood Mall, anchored by Walmart and JCPenney. Food options nearby include Healthy Vibes Jackson, which offers protein shakes, snacks and teas, along with China City for Asian takeout platters and Subway for sandwiches.

Jackson city parks a short drive away
Sparks Foundation Community Park is about 1 mile south of the neighborhood and offers a range of attractions and amenities, including The Cascades, a manmade waterfall with a built-in light show, and the Cascades Golf Course, an 18-hole public course with its own leagues and regular tournaments. Closer to the southern city limits, Ella Sharp Park offers its own golf course alongside unique amenities like a fishing area, lighted softball fields and a museum of local history.

Fireworks, block parties and festivals
Queens’ location on the inner west side of Jackson grants residents quick access to plenty of entertainment options. In the summertime, The Cascades and Sparks Foundation County Park host annual celebrations such as fireworks on the Fourth of July, the annual Palooza at the Falls block party and the Jackson Civil War Muster reenactment event. To the east near downtown Jackson, the Southern Michigan Winter Beer Festival brings a variety of craft brews, ciders and food trucks to the American 1 Credit Union Event Center the first weekend of March, while the neighboring Jackson County Fairgrounds hosts its annual fair each August. Greater Jackson County offers additional events and things to do, including summer music festivals like Rockin’ the Tee Box Festival for 90’s alternative and Faster Horses Festival for contemporary country music.

Queens is about 2 miles west of Downtown Jackson. Jackson Area Transit Authority bus stops are available along major roads like Morrell Street and West Avenue. For longer commutes, Ann Arbor and Lansing are both about 40 miles away.
