A small, one-stoplight town close to Grand Rapids
About 17 miles west from the hustle and bustle of Grand Rapids sits Jamestown, a small, one-stoplight town that offers a slower pace of life for its residents than that closer to the city. But Jamestown’s proximity to Grand Rapids and the ease with which locals can enter the city (a quick drive along Interstate 196) is one of its main draws. "It's a small town with big-town access," says Scott Zokoe, a Realtor with Five Star Real Estate and a Grand Rapids native. "And it's also very close-knit. A lot of families who move to Jamestown stay for a long time.”

Most of the homes in Jamestown are custom contemporary, built between 1999 and 2023. They have Colonial-style influences, with pitched roofs and multiple front windows, and feature multi-car garages. Low midcentury-era ranch-style houses and stately Victorian-revival homes are also prevalent throughout the neighborhood. They sit on spacious, sometimes sprawling lots, full of grass and flanked by tall, mature trees. Some residents have acres of farmland, with red barns close to their homes, which sit far from quiet, two-lane roadways. Prices range from $280,000 for 1,700 square feet to $1.5 million for 5,000 square feet.

Jamestown’s youngest residents can start school at Forest Grove Elementary, then head to Riley Street Middle School and Hudsonville High School. The Hudsonville Public School District encompasses all three schools, and each is highly rated on Niche; Forest Grove Elementary and Riley Street Middle have A ratings, and Hudsonville High has an A-minus. Hudsonville High serves about 1,500 students and has a student-teacher ratio of 21-to-1. It offers multiple clubs and organizations for students, including Equestrian Club, STEM Club and Ping Pong Club.

Locals soak up the sun at Spring Grove Park
Residents head to Spring Grove Park when they’re looking for fresh air and exercise. One of the park’s main draws is the paved walking trail that winds throughout, beneath canopies of trees and beside a tranquil stream. Nearby Grandville and Hudsonville host annual events
During the holiday season, many Jamestown residents head to nearby Grandville to Christmas at the Commons, where Chicago Drive is cordoned off and full of things to do, including food and gift vendors, live bands playing Christmas music and a stationary parade with floats, carolers and more. In July, they go to Hudsonville for Happenings on Harvey — Thursday night activities and live music throughout the month.
I-196 gets residents to Grand Rapids, Saugatuck
Interstate 196 is just north of the community, offering access to Grand Rapids, about 18 miles northeast. It also heads southwest towards Saugatuck, about 27 miles away, where locals relax on the sandy beaches at Lake Michigan during the summers. To go farther, Gerald R. Ford International Airport is about 20 miles west along Route 6 and offers flights throughout the United States.
