Saint Pat's
Homes dating back to the early 20th century
The homes surrounding Saint Patrick’s Parish date back to the early 1900s. Classic Chicago-style bungalows neighbor renovated Victorian, Colonial and Craftsman homes constructed as early as 1870. “There is a lot of character in old homes like that,” says Michael O’Donnell, a local Realtor with WEB VIDEO Realty. Sidewalks weave between residential streets, passing uniform square lawns. Many sprout old-growth trees and gardens leading to the wrought iron railings of their front stoops. Altogether, single-family homes range in price between $100,000 and $365,000. Homebuyers will also find a series of duplexes and other multifamily homes throughout the neighborhood. These units typically range in price between $190,000 and $270,000.Local parks are woven into Joliet’s rich history
Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park's history dates back to 1832, when Bluff Street became Joliet's first paved road. The park spans 10 acres along the Des Plaines River and borders Bluff Street to the east. There, guests will find a veteran's memorial site and a riverside trail with markers depicting the city's history. The park's outdoor bandshell even hosts concerts and theatrical shows in the warmer months. Just south, Mayor Art Schultz Park provides a playground, ball fields and shaded groves overlooking the Des Plaines Railroad River Bridge. Long-distance cyclists will find a parking lot for the Illinois and Michigan Canal Trail a mile south on Brandon Road. The 96-mile route heads east toward Willow Springs and west toward La Salles, closely bordering the 19th-century Illinois and Michigan Canal along the way.50 years of Concerts on the Hill
In 2024, Joliet celebrated 50 years of Concerts on the Hill, a free summer music series at Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park. From June to August, residents gather on the grassy knoll overlooking the park’s bandshell each Thursday evening to catch live performances. Overlapping is the Taste of Joliet, a June music festival held at Joliet Memorial Stadium. Located 3 miles west of Saint Pat’s, the festival features food vendors, carnival rides and headline artists like the Goo Goo Dolls, Lady A and Sugar Ray. By the wintertime, residents celebrate the holidays with Joliet’s annual Light Up the Holidays Parade. Hosted on Ottawa Street, the festivities include a North Pole Christmas Market, an iceless skating rink and even an inflatable gingerbread house for the little ones.Home Cut Donuts has been open since 1966
Downtown Joliet’s shops and eateries are just 2 miles east of Saint Pat’s. Guests can shop for antiques, vinyl records and vintage clothes or head to Juliet’s Tavern for classic American fare and patio dining. “The Rialto Square Theater hosts several bands throughout the summer,” says Rick Johnson, also a Realtor with WEB VIDEO Realty. “People from all the surrounding neighborhoods come out to enjoy the shows.” Closer to home, Home Cut Donuts has sat at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Manor Court since 1966. The longstanding bakery has since become a community staple, serving everything from classic jelly donuts to cinnamon rolls and apple fritters. The Jefferson Street strip is also home to various international eateries and markets, including Mariscos El Pulpo and Valle’s Produce. Jewel-Osco and Tony’s Fresh Market lead west to Sam’s Club, Walmart Supercenter and Menards.Joliet Public School District 86
Saint Pat’s students attend Joliet Public School District 86, beginning at Pershing Elementary. The school earns a C-minus on Niche, along with Dirksen Junior High. Both sit within a mile of each other on Midland Avenue, just west of the neighborhood. Joliet Central High School, located east of the Jefferson St. Drawbridge, earns a B-minus on Niche. Constructed in 1901, the high school is a community landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Students can browse from 22 unique Advanced Placement courses or participate in a dual credit program through Joliet Junior College.A 41-mile commute to the Windy City
Pace Suburban bus stops line Morgan Street and Center Street, but most residents of Saint Pat’s are car-dependent. Ascension Saint Joseph – Joliet is less than 3 miles west of the neighborhood. The hospital is one of the largest employers in Will County and serves as the nearest emergency room. Residents are also a mile west of Harrah’s Casino, another large employer overlooking the Des Plaines River. Chicago commuters can expect a 41-mile drive east on Interstate 55. Chicago Midway International Airport is 30 miles into the commute. Alternatively, the Joliet Metra takes riders an hour to reach the Windy City but does not offer a direct stop to Midway.
