Named after the historic Saint Patrick’s Church
The community of Saint Pat's earned its namesake from Saint Patrick's Church, a historic parish dating back to the 19th century. Original congregation members first relocated to Joliet in 1838, seeking to aid sick Illinois and Michigan Canal workers. Today, the towering church rests on Marion Street, a mere mile from the Illinois and Michigan Canal Trail. Though the canal closed in 1933, the church and trail continue to honor the city's rich, historical roots. Similarly, many of the community's homes have stood for a century or more. Legacy residents may even share personal history with nearby landmarks and eateries, from Joliet Central High School to Home Cut Donuts.

Local parks are woven into Joliet’s rich history
Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park's history dates back to 1832, when Bluff Street became Joliet's first paved road. The park spans 10 acres along the Des Plaines River and borders Bluff Street to the east. There, guests will find a veteran's memorial site and a riverside trail with markers depicting the city's history. The park's outdoor bandshell even hosts concerts and theatrical shows in the warmer months. Just south, Mayor Art Schultz Park provides a playground, ball fields and shaded groves overlooking the Des Plaines Railroad River Bridge. Long-distance cyclists will find a parking lot for the Illinois and Michigan Canal Trail a mile south on Brandon Road. The 96-mile route heads east toward Willow Springs and west toward La Salles, closely bordering the 19th-century Illinois and Michigan Canal along the way.
