Rural community with mountainous terrain
Situated in Moshannon State Forest, Huston Township is a rural community with homes on large lots spread out on mountainous terrain. Created from the northern portion of Patton Township in 1838, the town is named after Charles Huston, a Centre County judge who later served on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Huston is a major agricultural community thanks to the area’s fertile land and its tillability. The town’s only remaining village, Julian, was a hub for lumber shipment due to its location along the former Bald Eagle Valley Railroad. The township today maintains its small-town charm while also staying close to modern conveniences in State College.
Cottages starting in the $150,000s
Buyers can find ranch-style homes and cottages from the early-to-mid-1900s, and contemporary-style houses from the past 30 years. Lot sizes in the area range from half an acre to over 50 acres. Homes tend to stay on the market for just over two weeks and typically sell for $150,000 to $850,000, depending on the amount of accompanying land. The CAP Index gives Huston a crime score of 1 out of 10, which is lower than the national average of 4.
