Whether you want to live mere minutes from Kansas City’s core or have a quick commute to work, convenience is a constant in Vineyard Estates. The neighborhood is sandwiched between several major thoroughfares and an industrial sector that includes Hiland Dairy and Harvesters Food Bank. “There are a few factories in the area, so many people live and work here,” says Marline Brown, a Realtor with Murrell Homes. “But even if someone doesn’t work at one of those places, it's close to so much more. You can get to all of downtown KC in less than 15 minutes.”
The neighborhood is also filled with minimal traditional ranch styles from the 1950s. They cost anywhere between $80,000 and $130,000, a range significantly lower than a Kansas City home's average $250,000 selling price. For this amount of money, the houses have two to three bedrooms, private driveways and plenty of promise. “It’s a good area to invest in because the prices are low and the location is great, so a few of the houses have updated exteriors and new kitchens and bathrooms,” says Brown.
Children in Vineyard Estates can attend George Melcher Elementary, where field day is celebrated with relay races, a hula hooping competition and dodgeball. Then, they go to Central Middle. The active art and music department here displays student artwork at the Spring Showcase. Lastly, at Central High School, students can take courses in Early College Academy to simultaneously earn an associate degree and high school diploma. Additionally, students can join a variety of extracurriculars, including robotics, choir and wrestling.
While the neighborhood is predominantly industrial, it’s also surrounded by green space. Run around the playground at Vineyard Park or conquer the ropes course at Dunbar Park, which are both less than 1-mile away. Head to Blue Banks Park, where you can access the 4-mile Brush Creek Trail. As you wander the paved path, you’ll pass the flowing namesake waterway, a whimsical waterfall and bright pink dogwood trees. It also leads to the Country Club Plaza area, where you can shop 15 blocks of commercial options or view over 40,000 art pieces at The Nelson-Atkins Museum.
If you would rather drive to the plaza, a quick 5-mile trip down Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard will take you there. Vineyard Estates' location along this thoroughfare also means you can easily access other Kansas City hot spots, like all the restaurants in Westport or the bars in Power & Light. The neighborhood is also less than 4 miles from Arrowhead Stadium, home of the recent Superbowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs. Next door is Kauffman Stadium, where you can watch the Royals play against other MLB teams.
Even though these important entertainment districts are nearby, residents will find a few essentials even closer. For instance, grab groceries at Sun Fresh, about 3 miles away on Blue Parkway. The street also has a few locally owned eateries, including L.C.’s Bar-B-Q. Since 1986, the restaurant has served award-winning fare, and the slow-cooked pork burnt ends smothered in the signature sauce is a favorite among locals.
With a central location and low-cost living, it’s easy to call Vineyard Estates home.
