Glen Acres
Neighborhood in Lafayette, Indiana
Tippecanoe County 47905
New facilities at Munger and McCaw
The neighborhood is in a prime location for enjoying some of the city's newest recreation amenities. In 2023, Munger Park unveiled a vibrant orange, blue and green playground on a 4,000-square-foot space. The playground accommodates kids of all ages, with a rock wall leading up to a twisty slide, a saucer swing, a spring rider and a teeter-totter. In the center of the park is a fishing pond stocked with catfish. Paved paths near the pond provide a space to cast a line. The Munger-Greenbush pedestrian trail, spanning 2.6 miles, weaves through the park and continues southeast through the neighborhood. It leads toward McCaw Park, a popular pickleball destination located just south of the neighborhood. Renovations are underway to demo the 12 existing courts and build 26 new ones, a boon for Lafayette's thriving pickleball community. "It used to be just seniors playing, but now there are several agents in my office playing it — and they're in their 50s. It's becoming a bigger sport," says Cheryl Butcher, Managing Broker at Keller Williams Realty.
Mentorship opportunities at Glen Acres Elementary
This neighborhood has an elementary school within walking distance, while upper schools may require a short drive. Homes on Kimberly Drive and Kensington Drive are just across the street from Glen Acres, one of eight elementary schools in the Lafayette School Corporation. Volunteers with United Way visit Glen Acres classrooms to tell stories and help foster a love for reading and Big Brothers/ Big Sisters volunteers serve as positive role models. Niche gives Glen Acres a B rating. Students can progress to Sunnyside Intermediate for fifth and sixth grade and Tecumseh Junior High for seventh and eighth. Both receive a B-minus from Niche. Jefferson High earns an A-minus and offers a long list of early college experiences like Advanced Placement and dual enrollment classes.Compact ranches and lots in Glen Acres
This neighborhood contains single-family homes between Munger Park and Glen Acres Elementary. It's filled with smaller homes and lot sizes to match, but the neighborhood's location makes up for the lack of yard space. "Glen Acres residents can go to Munger Park and do a lot of activities they may not be able to do in their own backyard," Trachtman says. Quiet cul-de-sacs also allow for a game of basketball on the street. Glen Acres is filled with compact ranch-style houses with vinyl exteriors. Many have driveways leading to detached garages in the back. Prices range between $120,000 and $200,000.Youngsters cast a line at Kids' Fishing Day
Munger Park is a venue for both everyday trips and special occasions. In June, it hosts the Parks and Recreation Department's Kids' Fishing Day. Kids aged 3 to 14 can practice casting a line with a parent's supervision, and celebrate with a free lunch. Private events are also possible here, with a 100-seat picnic shelter available to rent.Munger-Greenbush Trail connects the neighborhood
It's easy to get around the Glen Acres on foot, with sidewalks available in many parts of the neighborhood. The Munger-Greenbush Trail is another pedestrian route, connecting the east and west sides of the neighborhood. Bordering the south side, Union Street leads west toward downtown Lafayette nearly 3 miles away. It connects with Salem Street and Old U.S. 231, leading to West Lafayette, home of Purdue University and the Purdue University Airport.Chains on South Street, local stops on Sagamore Parkway
Glen Acres is conveniently located near shopping and dining on South Street, less than a mile south. This commercial hub has big box stores, including Target and Lowe's and casual sit-down chains, such as Cheddar's and Chuy's. There are various grocery options, ranging from inexpensive pantry items at Dollar Tree to bulk produce at Sam's Club. Sagamore Parkway, bordering the neighborhood's west side, has a handful of local haunts. Mango Loco serves enmoladas and other authentic Mexican staples.
