Farmland and open space in LaGrange
New York's Middle Hudson Valley is known for its scenic views and busy river towns. LaGrange, 5 miles from downtown Poughkeepsie, is abundant in farmland yet less than 10 miles from Poughkeepsie’s train station and local eateries. While many residents commute to work in Westchester County, 47 miles away, or New York City, 76 miles away, others may work in Poughkeepsie at Marist University or the Nuvance Health Vassar Brothers Medical Center. “They want to live somewhere more rural than Poughkeepsie,” says Ann Stettner Charles, an associate broker at Neil Charles Real Estate who has worked in the industry for over 35 years. “LaGrange is the perfect spot because it’s very accessible.” LaGrange offers large homes on expansive lots near public transportation, shopping, dining and recreation without the hustle and bustle of city living.
LaGrange offers everything from classic colonials to updated builds, with prices that reflect space, upgrades and location.
Colonial Revival homes often come with large lots.

Townhouses close to Poughkeepsie and single-family homes on acre lots
LaGrange is a patchwork of farmland with suburban-style homes on winding roadways. Colonial Revival, New Traditional and split-level style homes are common in the area and sit on acre lots. “There’s more demand than there is supply,” says Stettner. “So properties tend to keep their value as long as a house is nice. Depends on the features, how many acres and the condition.” Recently built or upgraded homes go for $500,000 to $975,000, while older homes with little to no updates range from $275,000 to $475,000. Condos and townhouses are closer to Poughkeepsie and along Route 55, and range from $225,000 to $375,000. The area's CAP Index crime score is a 1 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.
