La Bota Ranch
Weaving trails along the Rio Grande
Within the community, there is a pool, tennis and basketball court as well as a soccer field. About 3 miles south, the Robert Muller Park allows catch-and-release fishing at the pond. The park also has a weaving path with picnic spots along the way. About 5 miles south, the Father McNaboe Park sits alongside the Rio Grande. The park is filled with soccer and ballfields as well as covered playground equipment. Trails follow the edge, turning from paved paths to dirt ones as they leave the park and follow the river to connect with the La Bota Trails.Celebrating culture with vendors from Mexico
Laredo’s Washington Birthday Celebration is a month-long event, but there are other events that occur throughout the year. “Little things happen, like the Sister Cities event,” says Wright-Martinez. “It’s basically a retail opportunity to buy Mexican dresses, blouses, handmade items.” The Laredo International Sister Cities Festival happens over a two-day period in the Sames Auto Arena about 10 miles east.Heading further into the city for shopping
About 7 miles south is Mall del Norte, with over 100 stores including Macy’s, Dillard’s, Cinemark and Mega Furniture. The closest H-E-B is almost 5 miles south in the North Creek Plaza, with other stores including Target, Marshalls and Best Buy. “San Telmo is probably my favorite,” Wright-Martinez says. Seven miles southeast, the Argentinean steakhouse also shares space with other restaurants like Colmena Bar & Grill and Border Foundry. “One of the more popular Thursday bar areas is Border Foundry,” Wright-Martinez says.Wildlife on the side of the road
La Bota Ranch is mostly all built, with a few plots left. Home styles consist of New Traditional, Spanish, Mediterranean and contemporary. Prices range between $209,000 and $400,000. “There’s deer that roam the area so some people don’t have fences in the backyard,” says Wright-Martinez. “As you’re driving in, they’re sleeping on the side of the roads.” The deer can sometimes freely wander between homes, which can make landscaping difficult. “The trick is to find the plants that the deer don’t like,” says Wright-Martinez. Most of the yards are filled with mature trees to provide shade from the Texas sun, and most homes have a backyard pool in addition to the community pool. La Bota Ranch is one of the few neighborhoods to have a homeowners association. “They’re more expensive than other HOAs, but they have the pool, have a little more maintenance,” says Wright-Martinez.Major roads and transport trucks
Sitting on the edge of the city, the neighborhood has no residential neighbors. “La Bota is in the middle of warehouses,” says Wright-Martinez. “It can sometimes take an hour to go a mile.” Laredo is the largest inland port in the United States, and so transport trucks are a common sight among the warehouses. Interstate 35 is about 3 miles east, and I-69W is a little more than 2 miles south. While rare, trucks can get backed up on the major routes. “The trucks will stay in one lane and leave the others open for everyone else,” Wright-Martinez says.Brand new middle school and Advanced Placement classes
La Bota Ranch is zoned to the United Independent School District, which earns a B-plus from Niche. Students begin at Muller Elementary, which receives a C-plus from Niche. Juan Roberto Ramirez Middle School will open for the 2024-2025 school year and has not yet received a grade on Niche. United High School, with an A-minus, offers Advanced Placement courses to students.
