Colonial-style homes throughout Prospect Hill – Back Bay
Prospect Hill – Back Bay’s gridded residential streets branch outward from Central Lawrence toward the river and are primarily lined with single-family and multi-family homes, along with some condos and townhouses. Many homes here date to the late 1800s or early 1900s, and tend to embrace the architectural styles prevalent throughout Boston.. “Homes are similar to the rest of the area,” Liriano says. “You’re looking at colonials, and closer to the Methuen line there are a lot of single-family homes.” Single-family homes typically cost between $500,000 and $600,000, while multi-family properties are often priced from $750,000 up to close to $1 million. Condos fall between $150,000 and $300,000, and townhouses can cost in the range of $300,000 to $400,000. The neighborhood is just across the river from Lawrence Municipal Airport, where air traffic is relatively consistent each day, and aircraft noise may be a concern for homebuyers. Anglers can fish in the Spicket and Merrimack rivers, and the latter is also popular for boating and swimming. To the west, across the Spicket River, Dr. Nina Scarito Park offers a basketball court, garden and playground. Lorenz Park features a baseball field, while Storrow Park has a playground and basketball court. Geisler Memorial Swimming Pool is also situated within the neighborhood.For indoor recreation, the Methuen Athletic Center and the adjacent Launch Family Entertainment Park provide fun and fitness for a variety of ages. The Methuen Athletic Center features workout equipment – including free weights, machines, treadmills and stationary bikes – and Launch has trampolines, arcade games, climbing walls and more.

Kids in Prospect Hill – Back Bay can begin schooling south of the neighborhood within Lawrence Public Schools. The John Breen School serves pre-kindergarten and kindergarten and gets a B-minus rating from Niche. The Francis M. Leahy School educates first through fifth grade and has a C-minus, while UP Academy Leonard Middle School also receives a C-minus. Campagnone Park sits less than 2 miles west in Lawrence proper and hosts a week-long celebration of Hispanic culture each year when Semana Hispana brings food vendors, live music, dancing and more to the park. Italian food takes center stage during the annual Feast of the Three Saints. “It’s a huge event on Common Street,” Liriano says. “They close the area completely, all the way from Union Street to Lawrence Street.” The festival features parades, dancing and food from local restaurants, all celebrating the area’s Italian heritage and culture.Motoring around the northeast on Interstate 495
Interstate 495 runs through the east side of Prospect Hill – Back Bay, connecting to Interstate 93 both north and south of the neighborhood. “You have the ability to jump on 93 from 495,” Liriano says. “It’s the highway that has the most exits in Lawrence.” Via I-495 and I-93, drivers can get to Boston, around 30 miles south of the neighborhood, or to Concord, New Hampshire, about 50 miles north. Those who prefer to let someone else do the driving can catch a Merrimack Valley Transit, or MeVa bus at one of the several stops within the neighborhood. For more distant travel, Boston Logan International Airport is around 30 miles south. About a mile north of Prospect Hill – Back Bay, residents can find a pair of popular international restaurants. “Tekila’s Bar and Grill is a Mexican restaurant, and a lot of people go there,” Liriano says. “There’s an Asian restaurant, called Ye’s Kitchen, that’s always packed full of people. It’s some of the best Chinese food around.” On the west side of Prospect Hill – Back Bay, the Bavarian Club pours cocktails, while G & Z Pizza & Restaurant is a local favorite for fresh pizzas and sandwiches. More stops sit just south across the river. “By the Merrimack, you have restaurants like Salvatore’s, which is a fine-dining Italian restaurant,” Liriano says, “and you can go downtown and find more Latin restaurants.” Tavern on Merrimack is close to Salvatore’s and offers a classic pub atmosphere and hosts live music. A Market Basket fulfills grocery needs less than 2 miles west of Prospect Hill – Back Bay.A few miles north of the neighborhood, The Methuen Shopping Center is home to retailers like Old Navy, Home Depot and Bath & Body Works, as well as an AMC movie theater. Walmart and Target are in the same vicinity for home necessities, and a nearby Walgreens offers full-service pharmacy services.
