Friendly faces and well-kept spaces

When people drive through MacArthur Park, it’s not just the tidy homes that have the potential to grip them. It’s the people, too. Residents here cultivate a welcoming environment in a quiet east Lawton neighborhood that they take pride in. "It is one of the few neighborhoods in Lawton that has an HOA, but you can see the payoff right when you pull in," says Heaven Speirs, a local Realtor with Park Jones Realty and a Lawton native. "The yards look immaculate, and the neighbors wave politely as you drive by."

Houses cross multiple eras

The first homes in MacArthur Park were built in the early 1970s, but others were built as recently as the 2010s. Craftsman and ranch-style houses with brick exteriors range between 1,200 and 2,600 square feet. Properties rest on compact, square lots that feature well-manicured front yards and fenced-in backyards. Most homes sell for $175,000 to $260,000 based on square footage and age. MacArthur Park is also just about 7 miles from Fort Sill, one of the state's largest employers. "For buyers looking on the eastside, MacArthur Park is usually on their dream list," Speirs says. "I've sold a lot of homes in that area to retiring military service members looking to settle down in their forever homes. This is not a common area for flipping to rent or rentals in general. It's mostly owners who take pride in their property."

Residents can get on Gore to reach the rest of the city

MacArthur Park is almost exclusively residential, but its streets connect to Gore Boulevard, one of Lawton’s major thoroughfares. Gore is how drivers can get to Interstate 44 for trips out of town — Oklahoma City is about 90 miles northwest, for example. The boulevard also runs straight into Lawton’s downtown, about 4 miles west. Commuters can catch the Lawton Area Transit System bus on Gore, too.

MacArthur Park is a key feature

The neighborhood’s namesake park is at the north end of the community and is within a short walk or bike ride to most addresses. It offers open field space and a playground. The larger East Side Park is about 2 miles away and has a playground surrounded by four baseball fields.

Gore is a connection to eats and entertainment

Gore Boulevard is lined with several restaurants and other businesses. Los Tres Amigos serves authentic Mexican dishes and is known for its margaritas. The spot nearly neighbors Braum's Ice Cream & Dairy Store, a regional chain with a wide selection of sundaes, shakes and frozen yogurt, plus burgers and chicken sandwiches. The Comanche Nation Casino and Apache Casino Hotel are just off Gore, too, and both have restaurants in addition to slot machines and table games. “This draws everyone from the west side to the east side, because there are no casinos on the west side,” says local Realtor Barbara Clark, of Barbara Clark Realty, who has 14 years of real estate experience. There’s also a Family Dollar on Gore, and residents can head south to Homeland, an Oklahoma-based grocery store, on 45th Street.

Ride over to the rodeo for multiple nights of competition

One of the city’s long-running traditions happens just about 3 miles south of MacArthur Park in August: the Lawton Rangers Rodeo. The rodeo has happened for almost 90 years and is considered the most prominent Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo in the state. There are four nights of events, in everything from steer wrestling to bull riding. People can also head up to the 143-acre Elmer Thomas Park, 5 miles west, to attend events like the Freedom Festival in the summer, a celebration that includes two nights of fireworks on the weekend before the Fourth of July.
