Bar W Ranch sets a high bar for suburban convenience

Bar W Ranch turned hundreds of central Texas acres into a sprawling master-planned community with an advantageous location within the city of Leander. Stately homes embellished with warm tones of brick and stone hug winding streets that lead to community recreation areas and a neighborhood elementary school. Multiple restaurants and grocery store options are minutes away, and nearby Highway 183A links the neighborhood to the rest of the extensive Austin metropolitan area.

Bar W Ranch is a development for those with modern tastes. All of the homes around here were built in 2020 or later, creating a collection of New Traditional-style options with rustic exterior details. The properties are the work of multiple developers, including D.R. Horton, Tri Pointe Homes and Brohn Homes, but they come with similar features, including attached garages and covered patios. Floor plans average almost 2,300 square feet, which beats the national average of about 1,900, but is still slightly under the Leander-wide average of over 2,500 square feet. However, houses here sell for prices from the mid-$300,000s to the upper $400,000s in most cases, with a median around $400,000, which comes in under the citywide median of about $470,000. Pricing is considered one of the draws to the area, according to local Realtor Nitin Kumar. “The pricing is very reasonable, so it works well for people,” says Kumar, who’s with eXp Realty and has about five years of real estate experience. HOA fees in Bar W Ranch average about $50 per month.

Nearby elementary school has an active parent group

The highly rated Liberty Hill Independent School District serves Bar W Ranch. Many residents are within walking distance of the neighborhood’s Bar W Elementary, which opened in 2023. The school has an active Parent-Teacher Organization that puts together events like the Bar W Bonanza & Multicultural Fest in the spring, featuring bouncy houses, face painting and food trucks.

Green spaces and paths make it easy to get outside

Recreational space is built into Bar W Ranch, and residents take advantage of it, Kumar says. They have quick access to spots like:

  • Bar W Ranch Pool and Play Area, where there’s an expansive pavilion, a playground and a pool that’s open from April through October
  • Bar W Ranch Dog Park, which is a fenced area with obstacles
  • Bar W Ranch Park, an open space with plenty of room for a game of catch or a picnic
Also, the series of sidewalks all around the neighborhood makes leisurely walks or jogs around the block easier.

Grocery stores, dining and retail sit close by

While not integrated into the neighborhood like the elementary school and the parks, places to eat and shop are just a short drive away. “It is very close to all the amenities: restaurants, food, hospital, Costco, H-E-B,” Kumar says. The Bar W Marketplace shopping center is front and center, located just about a mile outside Bar W Ranch, along Ronald Reagan Boulevard. H-E-B anchors the plaza, and it's also home to several restaurants, including:

  • Casa Garcia's, a Tex-Mex spot serving everything from breakfast tacos to sizzling fajitas
  • Hao Hao, which serves Chinese and Vietnamese fare
  • Milk + Tea, which crafts drinks with fresh boba pearls, made hourly
The area’s Costco is just about 5 miles away and includes a gas station. The Wolf Ranch Town Center offers more retail roughly 10 miles away, with stores like Target, T.J. Maxx, Best Buy and Kohl’s.

Residents can use nearby highways to reach Austin and beyond

Highway 183A runs just west of Bar W Ranch, providing a straightforward route into Austin. The drive to downtown Austin is about 30 miles using the highway. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is just under 40 miles away. Residents are even closer to the 118-bed St. David’s Georgetown Hospital, which has a 24-hour emergency department and is about a dozen miles away.
