The housing market in Lebanon Junction is a pain point for those wishing to relocate there. According to Demott, “The market is crazy. We need houses. We have old homes downtown selling for two times what they’re worth.” Current listings are scarce, and they span a wide price range. Median prices are in the upper $100 thousand range, but some residences list for as low as $60 thousand and as high as $500 thousand. Along Main Street, one-to-two-story farmhouse-styles with wide front porches face the sidewalk. Further from the train tracks, the sidewalks end, and styles range from pre-built modular houses to two-story brick, Colonial-inspired ones.

Commute to Shepherdsville for middle and high school
Elementary and pre-school students in Lebanon Junction can attend Lebanon Junction Elementary, which rates C-plus on Niche. Bernheim Middle School, with a score of B-minus, is about nine miles away in Shepherdsville. Bullitt Central High School, also in Shepherdsville, earns a C. They offer students the opportunity to participate in Advanced Placement and gifted courses.

Lynn Pepper, a third-generation local, says she drives to Elizabethtown (about 14 miles south) for groceries. As far as dining, she recommends Little Rick’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill. “They have a trivia night on Wednesdays and live music on Fridays.” Their menu features wings and burgers, and “sometimes they have frog legs, too.” The closest store to town is the Dollar General. Near city hall and the police station, Daddio’s Pizza and the L.J. Depot Diner offer two other options for dining out.

Main Street Festival and Lions Club events
The city of Lebanon Junction hosts an annual Main Street Festival with a parade. At the community center, the Lions Club holds events like the Halloween Hop and an annual art show. They also offer children in the community an opportunity to attend camp at Lions Camp Crescendo, on the northeast corner of town. Campers can learn to swim in the junior Olympic pool, hike in the woods and canoe on the five-acre lake. The Lebanon Junction Branch Library offers toddler story time as well as yoga classes. There is a basketball court and jungle gym at City Park, and in the summer, there is a splash pad where kids can cool off. For residents that enjoy nature, Knobs State Forest is about eight miles north of the city.
Driving conditions in Lebanon Junction
Pepper says, “Traffic in town is usually good, but they’ve been doing construction on Interstate 65, so people are detouring through town.” There is no public transportation, and the train that runs through town is not a passenger train. Synthica, a company that recycles food and beverage waste into green energy, plans to break ground on a facility in Lebanon Junction in late 2023. This should bring job opportunities to residents but may also impact travel in the near future.
