Evans Farm is a Lewis Center neighborhood known for its walkability

Evans Farm is a growing neighborhood in Lewis Center that’s designed around walkability. The community’s design embraces New Urbanist principles, ensuring that parks and businesses are only a short walk from new homes. The neighborhood has already made a name for itself as a family-friendly community, thanks to events like the popular farmers market and a highly rated school district. Highway access means residents can easily travel the 20 miles from Evans Farm to Columbus.

New construction includes homes, townhouses and apartments

Evans Farm is one of the newest communities in Lewis Center, with construction starting in 2018. Even though all of the homes are newer, the architecture draws inspiration from older houses. There are New Traditional styles, modern Craftsman homes and farmhouses, many of which have large front porches and open floor plans. “Even though we only have about half a dozen builders, every house is so unique in its own way,” says resident and Realtor Patrick Murphy with the Blvd Real Estate Group at Keller Williams Consultant Group. Prices for a single-family home generally range from the mid-$600,000s to about $1.6 million, but you can find entry-level houses in the high $400,000s. The neighborhood also offers rental opportunities, with townhouses and apartments located above the many shops and restaurants.

Shops, restaurants and more are a short walk from home

One of the first things you see when you enter the neighborhood is a collection of shops, eateries and other businesses. “I think it’s great that they’re not just serving the Evans Farm community, but also Lewis Center and the surrounding area,” Murphy says. Storefronts include:

  • Standardized Brewing, which serves beer and coffee
  • Johnson’s Real Ice Cream, a popular Ohio-based ice cream parlor
  • Yabo’s Tacos, with options like Korean Steak or Nashville Hot Chicken tacos
  • The 1 Fitness, a membership-based gym with private and small group training
  • Collective: Style & Social House, a hair and nail salon with a coffee and cocktail bar
Kroger is nearby, and there are more major retailers and big-box stores about 5 miles away in Polaris North.

Sidewalks and trails connect homes, parks and businesses in Evans Farm

A network of sidewalks and trails means that you can walk anywhere within Evans Farm. “Most people look for walkability,” Murphy says. “They want to be able to walk to a coffee shop, get some ice cream with the kids, whatever.” You can find that in Columbus neighborhoods like Short North and German Village, but Murphy says that those areas also have older houses. “A lot of people are looking for the best of both worlds, a new home with an appropriate size for your growing family and three-car garages,” he says. “But we also want walkability. And Evans Farms brings those two things together.”

While the neighborhood itself is walkable, longer trips require a car. Lewis Center Road connects with U.S. Highway 23, which you can take to larger grocery stores or into , about 20 miles (30 minutes) away.

Students attend highly rated Olentangy schools

Evans Farm families enroll their kids in the Olentangy Local School District, which earns an A-plus from Niche. Students at Olentangy High School, which is also rated A-plus, can take career and technical education courses or classes worth college credit to help them prepare for life after graduation.

Roads close for the weekly Market at Evans Farm

Evans Farm hosts several community events throughout the year. One of the highlights is The Market at Evans Farm, which Murphy says attracts people from across Lewis Center and the surrounding cities. This weekly market is every Saturday morning from June through October and has a mix of vendors selling fresh produce, food and arts and crafts. People also look forward to the annual Puttering Around Lewis Center, a summer event where Evans Farm Boulevard turns into a mini-golf course.

Outdoor amenities include playgrounds and Jennings Sports Park

Once Evans Farm is fully developed, 35% of the neighborhood will be dedicated to outdoor amenities. While the community is still growing, there’s already so much to do. You can:

  • Play a game with your neighbors at the pickleball courts
  • Bring your kids to one of the playgrounds
  • Get some fresh air on the walking paths and bike trails
  • Practice on the fields at Jennings Sports Park
The neighborhood is a short drive from the sprawling Alum Creek State Park. Nature lovers can explore one of the many trails or spend hours on the water at Alum Creek Lake, whether they’re boating, fishing or swimming. “Some mornings, I can hear the boats if it’s quiet enough,” Murphy says. He adds that families will head into Orange for the community pool and water park.
