Prospect Hill
Tidy suburban homes on quiet, private streets
Mature trees along Prospect Hill’s suburban streets offer shade between properties. Cape Cods, modern farmhouses and Colonial Revivals constructed throughout the 20th century intermingle with contemporary and Craftsman-style homes built in the 2020s. The median price of a single-family home in the neighborhood is $1.8 million, with prices starting around $1 million for modest, single-story homes and ranging to over $2.5 million for spacious, new construction properties.Lexington Public Schools with high ratings from Niche
Bridge Elementary School in Prospect Hill has an A grade from Niche. Jonas Clark Middle School and Lexington High School, both scored A-plus, are just outside the neighborhood’s boundaries. “Kids can walk to all three schools,” Savage says. The high school currently consists of four buildings and originally opened in 1953. There are, however, plans to replace the aging facility with a new $662 million school building. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, finishing in time for the 2029-2030 school year.Swimming at the Old Reservoir and other recreational facilities
The Old Reservoir, often referred to as the "Old Res,” has a small shoreline open for swimmers, canoers and anglers who want to use the body of water. “It’s not used as a reservoir anymore; it’s now the town beach,” Savage says. “They have aquatic programs and educational day camps, and sometimes in the winter, when it’s cold enough, you’ll see kids ice skating and playing hockey out there.” For more swimming, the Center Recreation Complex has four town pools, including a lap pool and wading pool. Residents and nonresidents can purchase seasonal or day passes to swim at the recreation center and Old Reservoir. Additionally, Lincoln Park has several turf fields, a playground and paved walking trails with fitness equipment. Across the street from the park is Temple Isaiah, a synagogue that’s been active in Lexington for 60 years.Walkable to dining in Lexington’s center
Prospect Hill is just about a mile from Lexington’s town center, which has an array of locally owned restaurants, cafes and shops. Locals can bite into calzones and heaping dishes of spaghetti at Mario’s Italian Restaurant, order wraps and sandwiches at Avenue Deli, or enjoy flaky, decadent pastries and croissants at Nouvé Bakery. For groceries, Stop & Shop is to the north off Bedford Street.Lexington’s Patriots’ Day celebration has a parade and battle reenactment
As Lexington was home to the first battle of the American Revolution, many of the town’s events focus on local history. Every April, Lexington honors the historic start of the Revolutionary War with a battle reenactment and parade along Massachusetts Avenue, just a mile from Prospect Hill.Commuting into Boston on Route 2
Route 2, just south of the neighborhood, takes drivers into Boston. Interstate 95 on Prospect Hill’s west side extends throughout the greater Boston area. Hanscom Air Force Base is just west, as is the MIT Lincoln Laboratory. “It’s a think tank sort of thing,” Savage says. “They’ve done military research there; they were the ones who discovered radar.” Boston Logan International Airport is about 20 miles east, and the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is 5 miles northeast.
