Nestled along the Schuylkill River, Limerick Township offers a relaxed atmosphere with a small-town feel. The southwestern half of the community is home to small villages, subdivisions and busy streets. To the northeast, the landscape is more rural, with winding roads leading past farm fields and woodlands. “Limerick was first settled in 1699. It was very much a rural farm community with a population of about 7,000 until the 1980s,” says Martin Witte of the Limerick Township Historical Society. “That was when the four-lane U.S. 422 and the Limerick Generating Station nuclear facility were built. Today, Limerick has a population of over 20,000.” Witte says the nuclear facility, located on the Schuylkill River, may be the area's biggest employer. (A May 2024 impact study by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission found the site had no significant environmental impact on the area.) Overall, Limerick Township is a quiet suburban neighborhood where neighbors look out for each other. “Everyone here stays connected to one another, so there are eyes everywhere. And our police officers are very active in the community,” says Kelli Musser, a Realtor with Compass RE who grew up in the area. That involvement may contribute to Limerick Township’s notably low CAP Index crime score of 2 out of 10, well below the national average of 4.

A variety of homes and prices
While homes in nearby Royersford sit close together along busy streets, Limerick Township is much more suburban, says Musser. Here, prospective home buyers will find newer colonial and upscale townhouses. Older homes built during the second half of the 20th century include Cape Cod, ranch-style and split-level homes. Most houses in Limerick Township have larger yards and plenty of surrounding trees. Most homes in newer subdivisions tend have well-tended lawns and sit back from tree- and sidewalk-lined residential streets. Musser says home buyers should expect to pay between $350,000 to $750,000 for a home in the community. Several senior communities in the area include manufactured homes between $165,000 and $210,000.
Quiet cul-de-sacs in Limerick Township attract buyers seeking suburban streets and family homes.

Check out the tube slides at Manderach
Limerick Community Park offers 70 acres of walking trails, sports fields and pavilions. The park’s main attraction is the castle-themed Manderach Memorial Playground, which is famous for its two giant tube slides and castle-shaped climbing structures. Nearby Victory Park also has a large playground where kids can burn off energy. On Saturdays from May through November, local vendors set up a farmers' market at the park. Golfers will appreciate Turtle Creek Golf Course, an 18-hole course in the middle of Limerick Township. The facility is also home to the Waltz Golf Center, which has two 18-hole miniature golf courses and batting cages for family fun. West-Mont United Soccer offers organized youth soccer to children of all ages and abilities.

From outlet malls to tomato pies, Limerick supplies
Steps outside of Limerick Township, Main Street runs through the heart of Royersford. A variety of small businesses located in old buildings line the streets. A walk down the street takes shoppers past the treasures at Open Door Thrift Store and the fashionable outfits found in Cranberry Street Boutique. Along the Limerick Township border, shoppers can pick up essentials at Target and Giant on East Ridge Pike. Or spend the day at The Philadelphia Premium Outlets, just off U.S. 422 in Limerick. Hungry shoppers and other diners can grab lunch or dinner at Copperfield Inn at Lakeside. The restaurant has indoor and patio seating and specializes in chef-inspired twists on American cuisine. For a casual experience, grab a slice of pizza and other Italian eats from Giovanni's, or head to Downtown Gastropub & Restaurant to hang out, drink some beer and enjoy a burger and giant pretzel. Musser says Corropolese Italian Bakery and Deli makes a tomato pie that is a local must-have at family and community get-togethers.
The Limerick Diner serves classic comfort food and remains a longtime community staple.

Fun rides and festivals in Limerick
For over 20 years, the Limerick Fire Department has hosted an annual community carnival in May that offers food, fun, rides and games for all. There is a beer tent, bingo games and live bands that play regularly. All proceeds from the popular event go to the fire department. In September, the Limerick Uncorked Festival brings together wineries, breweries and artisans from across the state. Local food trucks and musicians keep the crowds well fed and in high spirits throughout the day. Profits from this gala go to local nonprofits.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
