Taylor Park offers a slice of country in the city
When you live in the Taylor Park neighborhood, your backyard can feel like a portal to the wilderness. Some of the homes here back up to the area’s namesake park, a 20-acre plot of land whose atmosphere feels worlds away from the city when the trees are in bloom, and the grass is soft and green. This East Lincoln community balances its immense green space with access to an array of shopping and dining options along nearby O Street, including the Gateway Mall.
Many Taylor Park homes have attached garages.

A mix of architectural styles in the neighborhood
There are a few houses bordering the neighborhood's expansive park, but the wider area includes many more. Most here were built from the 1960s through the 1990s, including ranch-style homes, colonials, Tudor Revivals and New Traditional-style properties. Houses sit on wide streets, lined with sidewalks and trees. They also come with roomy lots of up to about one-third of an acre. The neighborhood’s traditional single-family homes generally sell for the mid-$200,000s to the mid-$500,000s. The area has several townhouses, too, priced from the lower $200,000s to the mid-$300,000s.
Prairie-style parkland and a nearby pool provide outdoor fun
Taylor Park sprouted from a 1960s land donation. The public space features a playground and picnic tables. It’s also designated as a Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, home to more than 200 trees. In fact, the trees are so dense that they obscure the houses around the park when the leaves are on the branches, offering a true escape from the surrounding city. “The other fun thing about Taylor Park is it’s not mowed,” says Lincoln native Russ Meyer, who’s a Realtor at Nebraska Realty. “So it retains its prairie feel … There’s prairie grass that you can’t see over. You’re in the middle of the country when you’re out there in Taylor Park.” Locals can also enjoy time under the sun at the private Eastridge Pool. Available through an annual membership and open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, the pool features a pair of slides and spans six lanes.
Residents enjoy walking their dogs through the neighborhood.

Gateway Mall, grocery stores and local dining are all close
The Taylor Park neighborhood runs right up against O Street, which anchors a corridor jam-packed with retail and restaurants. “I think in Taylor Park neighbors would feel like we’ve got the best of all worlds,” Meyer says. “Because you drive three blocks and you’re out on the main street. And you drive into the neighborhood, and you truly are in suburbia.” The large Gateway Mall is directly across O Street from Taylor Park, and offers stores from Dillard’s to Dick’s Sporting Goods. Other big-box retailers close by include Best Buy and Hobby Lobby. Grocery stores like Whole Foods and Russ’s Market are within walking distance for some. You can grab food in the area at:
Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant, where the portions are substantial
Cooks Cafe, which is a draw for breakfast
Piedmont Bistro by Venue, where there’s a dog-friendly patio

Quick access to the hospital, downtown and bus routes
One of the area's defining features is its quick commute to the CHI Health St. Elizabeth hospital — some residents are a short stroll away. “There are quite a few people who live in the neighborhood that do walk to St. Elizabeth’s Regional Medical Center,” Meyer says. “So that draws a ton of people from Southeast Nebraska — from all over, not specifically just Lincoln.” Those who work in Downtown Lincoln can be in the core of the city in 10 to 15 minutes. Several StarTran bus stops are also available around the Taylor Park area.
