Residential suburb on the outskirts of Lubbock
Ballenger, a residential area in Lubbock, offers comparatively lower-cost homes with access to major roads and restaurants. The city was founded by Texas settlers looking to move farther westward after the Civil War. Officially incorporated in 1909, the vast agricultural industry surrounding Lubbock has long supported the area. By the late 1900s, the growing tech industry saw hundreds of manufacturers move to central Texas.
Today, neighborhoods like Ballenger that sit on the outskirts of downtown offer lower-priced homes that still provide quick access to nearby job opportunities. Lubbock is also known for its arts, and Ballenger's claim to fame is that it's the birthplace of rock 'n' roll legend Buddy Holly. “This is a big music city,” says Wendy Jones, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty, who’s been selling homes in the area since 2006. “Buddy Holly was a Lubbock native, and the museum that was named after him really shows the history of rock and roll.”
