At the southern end of Lubbock, Southgate offers commuters convenient interstate access and proximity to major shopping hubs. A thin part of the north edge of the neighborhood holds industrial warehouses, while the rest of the area is residential. Interstate 27 borders the neighborhood, running north about 6 miles to downtown Lubbock and 12 miles to Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport. State Route 289, which locals call the Lubbock Loop, also borders Southgate and circles the city. The Covenant Medical Center is 7 miles north.
