Montview evolved from an early 1900s dairy farm into a trendy neighborhood with one of the nation’s most well-known Christian colleges. Neighbors live on suburban streets and can easily access entertainment and energy of nearby Liberty University. The college opened in 1971, and its founder, Jerry Falwell, purchased the neighborhood’s Montview Mansion in 1977. The neighborhood and university have expanded around it since then. “Montview is very family-oriented, even on campus,” says Zoe Nelson, a Liberty University student and employee for Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre, a ski resort that’s open year-round. LCA is Liberty Christian Academy, a well-regarded neighborhood private grade school also founded by Falwell. “It’s a nice area,” Nelson says. “But you’ll definitely need a car to get around. And there’s always heavy traffic, especially from 3 to 5 p.m.”
Montview is a quiet, centrally-located neighborhood in Lynchburg.
Many Montview students will graduate to Liberty University.
