Magna has a mix of established and new homes

Curtis Mayberry is a Realtor with Mainland Realty who has sold homes in the area. He says that Magna has been growing as Salt Lake City expands. “The cool thing is there’s a lot of new development,” Mayberry says. “For newer homes, that’s a super big plus, but you also have established homes, older neighborhoods with a family feel.” The closer you get to Main Street, the more you’ll see bungalows and ranch-style homes built in the early 1900s. Some of the newest townhouses and detached homes are in neighborhoods like Arbor Ridge and Mahogany Ridge. Across Magna, homes have sold in the upper $300,000s to the upper $600,000s, and some of the older properties may need renovations. And while more than 75-percent of residents are homeowners, there are apartment complexes like Linden Hill and the occasional rental home.

The district offers school choice open enrollment, so families can apply for schools outside their assigned attendance zone. And when it comes to higher education in the area, anyone who works at or attends the University of Utah has a roughly 30-minute drive to campus.

Commuting around Salt Lake by car or bus

Some people live close enough to walk or bike to spots like Pleasant Green Park or restaurants along Main Street, but you typically need to drive or catch a Utah Transit Authority bus to get around Salt Lake. “One of the biggest things is [that] it’s super close to the [Salt Lake City International Airport], which is good for people who travel a lot or work there,” Mayberry says. Mayberry also says people might work at the nearby Northrop Grumman aerospace manufacturing plant. State Route 201 leads to Interstate 15 on the drive to downtown Salt Lake City, and those going to the University of Utah can take Route 201 until it merges with Interstate 80.

Magna summers are busy with celebrations

August is another busy time because of the electronic music Das Energi Festival held at the Great Saltair venue along the Great Salt Lake.
