Cultural celebrations mark Malden's diverse heritage
As a multicultural community, the city celebrates diversity with events such as the New England Muslim Festival, a Filipino Festival and a Chinese New Year celebration. For 94 years, the St. Rocco's Feast of Malden has honored the faith of Italian Catholic Americans with processions, parades and feasts. “The city holds different events and celebrates all the religious holidays,” Chuha says. “Nobody’s ever left out and people from all walks of life are welcomed here.” Other events include the International Woman’s Day Festival and the Maplewood Halloween Festival.
Close proximity and easy access to Boston
Belmont is accessible via the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) bus, T and commuter rail services. There is an MBTA station at Malden Center, which has both the T Orange Line and the commuter rail’s Haverhill Line, both providing access to Boston. The capital city’s downtown is about 5 miles south and can be accessed via local roads, and Logan International Airport is about 6 miles away. Cambridge Health Alliance – Everett Hospital is less than 2 miles east.
Belmont is a short distance from downtown Malden and close to Boston.

Award-winning public schools in Malden
Malden Public Schools has an overall B Niche grade with a student-teacher ratio of 14-to-1. Ferryway School serves students from grades one to eight and rates a B-minus. Ferryway’s STEM program is nationally recognized and was twice rewarded with the HP Technology for Teaching Leadership Grant. Malden High School has a B-plus and partners with Bunker Hill Community College to provide students with the Early College High School Initiative, which lets students receive an associate degree or two years of college credit while in high school.

Pocket parks and playgrounds abound
City parks and playgrounds are spotted all around the Belmont community. Newman Park, the neighborhood pocket park, has a playground and an athletic field. A few blocks west, Bell Rock Memorial Park, with Civil War and World War II memorials, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s also a popular place for picnicking in the summer, and people can take a stroll along the walking paths with their dogs. Several streets south of Belmont Street, Swan Street Playground has a big splash pad for children to play and cool off in the summer. Northern Strand Community Trail, which stretches from Everett to Lynn, parallels Eastern Avenue in Malden and has developed into a public art space featuring grand murals and sculptures.
