Dove Mountain offers suburban living by the Tortolita Mountains

Dove Mountain is a sprawling master-planned community in Marana, with 15 distinctive subdivisions nestled in the foothills of the Tortolita Mountains. With expansive views of the Sonoran Desert, the area offers a sweeping backdrop of desert plains and rugged peaks. Residents enjoy a lifestyle that blends the outdoors with everyday convenience. “Dove Mountain is like living in the suburb but being in the country,” says Pam Browning, broker at Long Realty with 20 years of experience. “You’ve got beautiful desert plains and sunset views and roads that cut through mountains.” At the same time, Browning says it also has all the comforts and amenities of suburban living, with schools and retail destinations nearby.

Diverse housing stock in Dove Mountain caters to different homebuyers

Dove Mountain encompasses over a dozen subdivisions and neighborhoods. Housing options range from apartment complexes and active adult communities to traditional subdivision homes and custom-built luxury estates. “This is where you need to know what your wants are,” Browning says. “You can go with everything basic and find a house with no gate, golf club or amenities, all the way to a high-end house with everything. The diversity attracts a lot of homebuyers, and you can do a la carte and pick what you want.”
Development in the area largely took place in the 2000s, with architectural styles leaning toward New Traditional and ranch-style designs. Spanish accents are also common, with terra-cotta tile roofs and arched windows and doorways. Most neighborhoods offer a suburban setting with cul-de-sacs and sidewalks. The more exclusive communities, such as Canyon Pass and the Residences at the Ritz-Carlton, offer custom homesites or personalized home designs with mountain or golf course views. “Canyon Pass has acre-sized lots,” Browning says. “And Ritz-Carlton has concierge services, which cover just about anything you can think of, from grocery needs to dry cleaning.” With larger parcels, high-end properties have more room for backyard pools, patios and grill areas for outdoor entertainment.
Home prices vary widely. Smaller single-family homes typically sell from $300,000 to $850,000, while larger estates usually go for $1 million to $3 million. Townhouses in the active adult community, Highlands at Dove Mountain, generally sell from $300,000 to $450,000. Most neighborhoods are part of an HOA, and homeowners will likely need to pay dues. Browning says communities that are gated or offer recreational amenities will have higher HOA fees, and that gated communities maintain their own roads.

Trails, public parks and golf clubs provide year-round recreation

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy around Dove Mountain. Golfers can play at one of the three local golf clubs. Gallery Golf & Sports Club is a private country club with a pool and sports amenities as well as a 36-hole course. Over 50 miles of hiking and biking trails wind through the region, and some pass through Dove Mountain, including the 8-mile Dove Mountain Community Trail. Tortolita Preserve offers additional nature trails for walking, horseback riding and birding. Community parks like Dove Mountain Park provide sports courts, play equipment and open green fields. Farther south, Catalina State Park offers camping opportunities and other outdoor adventures.

Public education is provided by Marana Unified School District

The community is served by Marana Unified School District, and the state offers school choice across all public districts. Students may start out at Dove Mountain CSTEM K-8 School, which offers hands-on learning experiences and CSTEM courses with state-of-the-art facilities. Mountain View High School provides a broad range of academic options, including Advanced Placement, dual enrollment and career and technical education courses. Both schools have B-plus grades from Niche. Carrington College and trade schools are south of the area.

Shopping and dining options in Dove Mountain and Oro Valley

The area has a handful of businesses and eateries. The Highlands Bar and Grille serves American cuisine and has patio seating that overlooks the golf course. Dove Mountain Brewing Company has craft beer and gastropub food. Fry’s Marketplace is nearby for groceries. About 5 miles east, the neighboring town of Oro Valley has Safeway and Walmart. Tucson Premium Outlets is about 10 miles away, home to over 70 retailers and restaurants.

Distance to Tucson, nearby hospital and airport

Interstate 10 is directly west of the community and connects to Tucson, about 20 miles south. Northwest Medical Center is about 10 miles away, and Tucson International Airport is approximately 25 miles south of Dove Mountain. Public transit is provided by Sun Tran.

Local events and festivals in Tucson bring entertainment

Communities at Dove Mountain have several social events throughout the year, including the Fusion Festival in November, which has wine and beer tastings, an art sale and live music. The city of Tucson also has a variety of festivals, including the Tucson Folk Festival and the Tucson Festival of Books.
