Frasier is walkable neighborhood that once provided housing for aircraft plant employees
Frasier is a neighborhood next to downtown Marietta that has a range of housing options and is conveniently located less than a mile from the Marietta Square. “It’s a good neighborhood, you see a lot of people out walking,” says Cheryl Richardson, a Marietta city councilor who represents the neighborhood. Richardson said the neighborhood originally provided housing to workers at the Bell Bomber Plant, a government plant that produced military aircraft during World War II and was sold to Lockheed Martin after the war. Some of the area's older homes date to the war era, but newer homes have filled out the community, giving buyers a wide range of options.
Condos, townhomes and single-family homes
There are nearly 380 homes in the neighborhood, ranging from condos to 1940s bungalows to townhomes in gated communities. “You’ve got a mix of old houses with large front yards, the way it used to be, then you’ve got also new housing,” Richardson says. The newer construction began in 2007 before stalling because of the housing crisis. “But then it completely filled out,” she says. The community's smaller bungalows, typically with two or three bedrooms, list between $270,000 and $450,000. Larger, newer homes with three and four bedrooms, both single-family and attached townhomes, often list between $450,000 and $760,000. Some large single-family homes are currently under construction and expected to be ready in late 2025. Those are listed between $1.3 million and $1.5 million.
A- and B-rated schools and an elementary choice program
Children in the neighborhood are zoned for Park Street Elementary, which has a B on Niche. Marietta Sixth Grade Academy and Marietta Middle School have a B-plus and Marietta High School has an A-minus rating. The district has a school choice program at the elementary level that allows parents to submit transfer requests to any of the other elementaries in the system.
Sports, performances and youth leadership activities available nearby
Just south of the neighborhood is Larry Bell Park, which has tennis and pickleball courts. The Cobb County Civic Center is adjacent to the park and includes the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre, which is considered a cultural hub for the county and hosts numerous concerts and plays throughout the year. The Cobb County Aquatics Center is also nearby. That same civic complex will soon have a veterans memorial to honor more than 60,000 veterans in the county. “It will become a destination point in Cobb County, I have no doubt,” Richardson says.
The James T. Anderson Boys and Girls Club is also close to Frasier, as is Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta, a nonprofit that offers programs like STEM camps and afterschool activities that support girls in becoming leaders.
Dining on the Square and taking dogs along to The Drafty Dane
Many residents of the neighborhood enjoy walking to Marietta Square for its numerous restaurants and boutiques. The Roswell Street shopping corridor includes Walmart and Sam’s Club, as well as seafood restaurants and Haitian and Cuban cuisine. The Drafty Dane, which recently opened on Roswell Street, has been a success with locals. Customers can enjoy a craft beer while allowing their four-legged companions to run around the outdoors off-leash dog park.
Close to I-75 and served by CobbLinc buses
Many people enjoy walking the neighborhood and heading to the Marietta Square on foot, and Richardson says the city is continuing to work to make the area more pedestrian and bike-friendly. Frasier is also close to Interstate 75, via South Marietta Parkway. Roswell Street to the north is the other major thoroughfare bordering the neighborhood. CobbLinc, the Cobb County bus service, has some stops in the neighborhood.
