Living between Marion's factory and shopping centers in Sunnywest
Sunnywest is a small collection of residential streets on the western side of Marion. It’s name comes from the two main subdivisions in it — Sunnyacres and Westlea. While Sunnywest itself is a quiet suburb, it is bordered on both sides by Marion amenities. To the east, Northgate Shopping Center provides this side of the city’s grocery stores and the movie theater, while General Motors has a factory just to the west of the neighborhood. Sally Jenks, a broker with RE/MAX Realty One, mentions that production here has pulled back in recent years, making it a less prominent employer in Marion. However, Marion Health Family Medical Center, another major employer, is just 2 miles east of Sunnywest, settled along the Mississinewa River.
General Motors Marion Metal Center in Marion is one of the largest employers in the area.

Sunnyacres's and Westlea's ranch-style homes
Even though Sunnywest splits between the two subdivisions, most of the houses here are ranch-style homes, with a few split-level options dotting the streets. Trees in front yards hang over the sidewalks, which link pedestrians with the parks in the neighborhood and the church in Sunnyacres. Homes here typically sell between $100,000 and $200,000.

Taking the bus to work or downtown from Sunnywest
Downtown Marion is 2.5 miles from Sunnywest, connected to the neighborhood by Spencer Avenue. The General Motors bus line connects employees with the factor, but also stops downtown, at the shopping center and the hospital. Kem Avenue runs along the northern side of the community, linking residents with the shopping center and grocery stores. When traveling beyond Marion and Indiana, Indianapolis International Airport is 93 miles south of Sunnywest.

Antique shopping or walking to the movie theatre
People can stop in Don’s Tap for classic pub food like fish and chips posts their specials on the chalkboard outside. The fireplace and umbrellas on the patio mean visitors can sit outside throughout the seasons. Jake’s Antiques might look like a barn, but it’s full of clothing, furniture and collectibles. For groceries, Needler’s Fresh Market and Ruler Foods are both just 1.5 miles away in Northgate Shopping Center, which also has chain restaurants like Applebee’s and Buffalo Wild Wings. Backed by homes, Sunnacres Park shares its grounds with Sunnycrest Community Church, offering a playground and baseball diamond. In the middle of the Westlea subdivision, Westlea Park has a basketball court and a playground within walking distance of homes. On the northern side of the city, Matter Park is the city’s largest green space, making it a destination for people across Marion. People can stroll through the butterfly gardens and around the lake or play on the tennis and pickleball courts. Kids can also enjoy two playgrounds available on the grounds.

Getting ahead at McCulloch Junior High School
For kindergarten through fourth grade, students can attend John W. Kendall Elementary School. After, they’ll continue to Justice Thurgood Marshall Intermediate School for fifth and sixth grade. Both it and the elementary school receive C-plus rankings from Niche. C-rated John L. McCulloch Junior High School offers a program where students can take required high school courses early. Marion High School earns a B.

Season events at Matter Park
Matter Park hosts a lot of the city’s annual and seasonal events, including Marion Fall Fest in October. People can come in their Halloween costumes and take hayrides around the park or play carnival games. Local vendors come together to form the Fall Mall. In the winter, the park sets up for the holiday season with over 2 million lights for Walkway of Lights. People can walk or drive through Matter Park, and kids can visit Santa’s workshop.
