New England
Historic single-family homes are found near downtown
Built from the 1950s to the present, New England’s homes are comprised of Colonial Revival, Foursquare and ranch styles. Residential streets are often set against tall, dense stands of trees. Single-family homes with a median lot size of about two-tenths of an acre typically list between $150,000 and $320,000. Older properties that are less than 1,000 square feet are listed at around $90,000. New developments, such as Gray Ridge Estates, offer bigger homes for about $300,000.New England has two public school districts
Properties are zoned for either Massillon City School District and Perry Local School District. Students in Perry District may attend Watson Elementary, graded A-minus by Niche; Pfeiffer Intermediate School and Edison Middle School, both graded B-plus; and Perry High School, graded B-minus and offering AP classes. Students in the Massillon District may attend Franklin Elementary School, Massillon Intermediate School, Massillon Junior High School and Washington High School, all of which are graded B-minus by Niche. According to a representative of the Massillon City Schools Athletics Department, spectator tickets for football games at the Paul Brown Tiger Stadium, named for a Hall of Fame coach who once coached the school's team are sold on the Washington High School website, and all varsity games are live-streamed online for those without tickets. Sellouts are common.Locals work out at sports fields, hiking trails and recreational centers
Sippo North and Sippo South parks offer scenic trails along Sippo Creek for bird-watching, hiking and horseback riding. Kiwanis Park is a popular spot for private weddings and events, offering walking trails through the woods and a large, shaded picnic area. The Massillon Recreation Center offers indoor facilities such as a swimming pool, fitness center and volleyball courts, particularly useful in the winter when rainy, cold conditions are common.Nearby shopping centers offer a variety of restaurants
Within the neighborhood, residents shop for groceries at Aldi or Giant Eagle Supermarket or head to the Meadows Plaza Shopping Center to reach Target and CVS Pharmacy. Belden Village Mall, located about 7 miles to the northeast, has national chains, including Macy’s and Dillard’s. Popular downtown Massillon restaurants include Margarita’s Mexican Grill & Cantina and Smitty’s Steak & Ale. B & K Café is a family-owned diner known for hot breakfast meals.Annual events bring the community together
Massillon hosts annual festivals for residents to enjoy live music, food from downtown vendors, shows, games and family-friendly activities. “Massillon is a wonderful historic district,” says Rudy, “and the city’s events are free of charge for the community.” Winter celebrations include the Holiday Parade & Light Up event and the Community Candlelight Walk. As loyal fans of Massillon Tigers, neighbors also throw tailgating parties for football season.Navigating Massillon and the surrounding Stark County region
Downtown Massillon is just over a mile west of New England, roughly a 30-minute walk or a 5-minute drive. The Stark Area Regional Transit Authority (SARTA) bus can take residents to areas throughout Stark County, including Canton, which is 8 miles east of Massillon. Despite public transit options, most people rely on cars for local travel. State Routes 172, 21 and 241 are close by for convenient access to Greater Ohio, and the Akron-Canton Airport in North Canton is 11 miles away for regional flights to Chicago or New York.
