Pineda puts natural scenery, shopping and dining within quick reach

Pineda is a suburban coastal neighborhood that puts homeowners within quick reach of all the attractions on Florida’s Space Coast. “The community is beautiful. It has access to everything you want: parks, recreation, things like the zoo and movie theaters,” says Catalina Schreader, a broker associate at Dale Sorensen Real Estate, with over 20 years of experience. “There are tons of restaurants and golfing. There’s like four golf courses around here.” The community is north of Melbourne and centered along U.S. Route 1. It borders the Indian River, offering a selection of waterfront homes. The Pineda Causeway sits at the neighborhood’s southern end, giving residents a short drive east to the beach.

Waterfront homes and grassy suburban lots

Pineda has multiple communities within the neighborhood. Gated communities like Windsor Estates and Casabella are located further inland off North Wickham Road. These typically have one and two-story stucco houses with attached garages. The streets have a suburban feel, with grassy lawns, sidewalks and leafy trees. Other areas feel more rural, with dense foliage and towering palm trees. There are multiple gated waterfront communities on the Indian River, where homes typically have private docks. Single-family waterfront homes can cost anywhere between $940,000 and $2.7 million, excluding some outliers. Non-waterfront houses range from $490,000 to $1.4 million. Manufactured homes in the neighborhood cost between $60,000 and $190,000. According to First Street, flooding is a common risk for waterfront properties. The neighborhood has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.

Fishing, boating and golfing on the Florida coast

Recreation is abundant in Pineda, with several parks nearby. P.O.W./M.I.A. Park is a nearly 5-acre site on the banks of the Indian River, with ramps for motorized and non-motorized boats. It also has a walking path and spots for fishing from the shore. Rotary Park has a 140-foot fishing pier and a large sandy area for swimming or lounging in the sun. Golfers have multiple options, including the private Suntree Country Club and the public Baytree National Golf Links. The Pineda Causeway leads east to Pineda Beach, which has a public parking lot, restrooms and picnic shelters. Hundreds of animals from around the world live at the Brevard Zoo, which offers a variety of unique encounters and adventures.

Seafood restaurants and chain stores serve the neighborhood

Residents have lots of dining options nearby. Grills Riverside Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar is an airy wooden building with thatched roofs by the water. This casual spot serves tropical cocktails and unique dishes like shark kabobs. River Rocks serves steak and seafood by the river, with plenty of outdoor seating. Schreader also recommends several restaurants west of the neighborhood in Viera. “Urban Prime is very popular. There’s Bonefish Grill, that is also a very popular one,” she says. Groceries are available at Sprouts, Aldi and The Fresh Market. Big-box stores include Walmart and Target near Interstate 95 and a Costco on Pineda Causeway.

Highly rated schools offer career academies

Students might attend Sea Park Elementary School, which gets a B-plus from Niche. DeLaura Middle School and Viera High School each earn an A-minus. High school students can study in the Academy of Communication, Art and Design or the Academy of Business and Finance. The school also offers career and technical education programs in carpentry, early childhood education and TV programming. Brevard Public Schools offers magnet programs and choice schools, allowing students to attend a school other than the one they are zoned for.

Multiple highways make it easy to get around

U.S. Route 1 is the main highway through Pineda, offering a north-south route and connecting to the Pineda Causeway in the neighborhood’s south end. Interstate 95 is also nearby, providing a faster north-south highway through Florida. Several major employers are close by. Patrick Space Force Base is about an 8-mile drive from the neighborhood. Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station are each about 30 miles away. Melbourne Orlando International Airport is about 11 miles south. Multiple bus stops on Wickham Road connect riders to Melbourne and Viera.
