A sought-after neighborhood in Hialeah with high-value homes

Waterfront properties along a trio of neighborhood lakes are a highlight of the single-family homes that can be found along the neighborhood’s residential streets. “It’s a good location if you want to buy in Hialeah,” says Marelys Lazo, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker-Tamayo & Zeghelboim who has sold homes in the neighborhood and used to live there decades ago. “The houses are a little newer and larger.” Typical offerings feature ranch-style or other midcentury designs with small front yards and backyards large enough for pools. Sidewalks add walkability, and palm trees add curb appeal. While fixer-uppers can be found for less, home prices typically range from the low $500,000s to $800,000-plus. Condos and townhouses can also be found, ranging in price from the mid-$100,000s to the low $200,000s. The neighborhood’s median sales price of nearly $630,000 is about 25 percent higher than Hialeah as a whole. “It’s a little pricier; it’s a nice little pocket,” Lazo says.

Hispanic eateries and shopping options in, around the neighborhood

There’s a Publix and a CVS at Hialeah Plaza on the neighborhood’s north side. Across the street at Rey’s Pizza Plaza, residents can grab a slice or enjoy a meal at El Castillo De Las Frutas, one of several Cuban restaurants in the neighborhood. Hialeah has seen a recent influx of residents from Latin America and South America, adding to the diverse culinary options. Graziano’s Restaurant is a family owned Argentinian steakhouse in the heart of Westhaven Heights. Other neighborhood eateries include Paraiso Tropical Pizza and La Carreta, both of which serve up Cuban-inspired favorites. “The west side of Hialeah has a lot of restaurants,” Lazo says. Sedano’s Supermarket is another featured shopping destination in the neighborhood. Sedano’s, the largest Hispanic-owned grocery chain in the U.S., is headquartered in Hialeah. Westland Mall and Hialeah Mercado offer a variety of shopping and dining options just outside of the neighborhood along West 49th Street. “There are a lot of new eateries in Westland Mall,” Lazo says.

Victor Wilde Community Center anchors the amenities at Wilde Park, another neighborhood activity center. One of the region’s largest recreational centers, Amelia Earhart Park, is just a short drive away. The 515-acre recreational mecca that caters to outdoors enthusiasts has it all: bike trails, a playground, a fishing pier, a dog park, athletic fields, paddleboats, lush greenery and more. For boaters and anglers, the Intracoastal Waterway and the adjacent Atlantic coast are within 20 miles.
