Familiar faces and recreation in Northeast Middletown
Spacious, well-maintained lawns and wooded back yards allow for a sense of privacy in Northeast Middletown. Around 4 miles from Downtown Middletown, the neighborhood lies just south of the Verity Parkway and the Great Miami River, allowing for quick access to downtown and numerous riverside recreation areas. “Everyone who moves to Middletown talks about how nice the people are,” says Michael Combs, a local Realtor with Coldwell Banker Heritage. “We have a small-town community, and you always see familiar faces when walking through town. Neighbors help each other in times of need, and there is an all-around welcoming atmosphere.” The area attracts commuters to both Dayton and Cincinnati. “The town got its name by being almost exactly the middle point between the two cities,” Combs says.
Modern architecture and spacious properties
The bulk of the homes in Northeast Middletown were built after 1990, with common styles including brick ranch-style homes, craftsman builds and modern traditional architecture. Fenced-in back yards and attached two-car garages are common throughout the neighborhood, with well-maintained sidewalks lining the streets. Most of the area’s houses have between 1,500 and 4,000 square feet and sit on quarter to half-acre lots, with prices ranging from $225,000 to $575,000. A few expansive, estate-style homes in The Timbers private subdivision can go for $800,000 to $1.2 million and sit on wooded, multi-acre properties. Two to four-bedroom condos on the community’s south side range from $245,000 to $335,000.
Nearby public schools and Miami University Middletown
Most of the neighborhood’s homes are within a half-mile walk of Miller Ridge Elementary School, which earns a C-plus grade from Niche. Most local students split their middle school years between Highview 6th Grade Center and Middletown Middle School, which serves seventh through ninth grade students. Both schools receive C-minus grades. The C-rated Middletown High School offers career field courses in the areas of business and engineering, including computer-integrated manufacturing, financial accounting and strategic entrepreneurship. Students can choose one of six programs of study to focus on throughout their high-school career, with courses teaching technical skills through hands-on learning in fields like health sciences, human services and agricultural systems. Miami University's Middletown Campus is less than 2 miles from Northeast Middletown and has over 45 degree and certificate programs and around 1,200 students.
Local businesses and an active art scene
Downtown Middletown is roughly 4 miles southwest of the neighborhood and offers dozens of local businesses, from bakeries to art centers. Tripple Moon Coffee Company is a local favorite serving espresso, baked goods and sandwiches. On Main Street, The Swire Inn is a historic boarding home-turned restaurant that has been in the area since 1864 and serves cozy pub fare from pot roast to shepherd’s pie along with seasonal cocktails and regular live music. For groceries, shoppers can swing by the local Save a Lot, Kroger or ALDI. Middletown has an active arts scene, with a selection of theaters, galleries and workshops across town. The Pendleton Art Center hosts First Fridays, with studio tours and sales of local artwork. The Sorg Opera Houses has events ranging from live music and comedians to community theater productions.
Nearly 100 miles of paved trails along the river
Northeast Middletown is less than a mile from the paved Great Miami River Trail, which spans nearly 80 miles north along its namesake river to Piqua and is popular among local bikers and runners. “Ohio has one of the largest networks of bike trails in the United States,” says Combs. “The river trail is popular among locals and brings in day-trippers.” Plans are underway to connect this northern section of the trail to its southern counterpart that spans from Fairfield to Hamilton, which will result in roughly 95 miles of connected paved trails along the water. The Wildwood Golf Club is a short drive from the community and is home to 18 well-maintained oak-lined fairways, a restaurant and an outdoor pool.
Convenient access to I-75 and Butler County Transit
Interstate 75 runs through the east side of Middletown and spans around 20 miles northeast to Dayton and roughly 38 miles southwest to Downtown Cincinnati. The nearby Jewell Avenue is lined with bus stops operated by Butler County Regional Transit Authority, with service to downtown Middletown.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
