The C-rated Middletown High School offers career field courses in the areas of business and engineering, including computer-integrated manufacturing, financial accounting and strategic entrepreneurship. Students can choose one of six programs of study to focus on throughout their high-school career, with courses teaching technical skills through hands-on learning in fields like health sciences, human services and agricultural systems. Interstate 75 runs through the east side of Middletown and spans around 20 miles northeast to Dayton and roughly 38 miles southwest to Downtown Cincinnati. Northeast Middletown is less than a mile from the paved Great Miami River Trail, which spans nearly 80 miles north along its namesake river to Piqua and is popular among local bikers and runners. “Ohio has one of the largest networks of bike trails in the United States,” says Combs. “The river trail is popular among locals and brings in day-trippers.” Plans are underway to connect this northern section of the trail to its southern counterpart that spans from Fairfield to Hamilton, which will result in roughly 95 miles of connected paved trails along the water. The Wildwood Golf Club is a short drive from the community and is home to 18 well-maintained oak-lined fairways, a restaurant and an outdoor pool.
