Hyde Park's wide streets lead to H-E-B and a high school
Sidewalk-lined streets surround a high school and a Texas chain grocery store in Hyde Park. Between the rows of homes and wide, paved avenues, narrow dirt alleys give properties extra space from the houses behind them. The neighborhood has relatively high walkability despite being 4 miles outside downtown. “One of the best things about the neighborhood is the trees surrounding it,” says Kerri Payne James, owner of The Agency KPJ, who sells all over Midland. “They were planted in the ‘60s and ‘70s. With the new construction in Midland, you just don’t have very many trees.”

Brick homes that don't stay on the market long
Ranch-style houses, especially those with brick facades, are the most common house type. Houses were primarily built between the early ‘60s and the mid-'70s. “All the homes have lower roof lines, not the high ceilings you get in new construction,” James says. Many properties have fenced-in backyards and one- or two-car garages. Single-family homes range from $260,000 to about $320,000. Homes in Hyde Park stay on the market for an average of two days, much lower than the national average.
