Permian Estates
Established neighborhood with midcentury homes and mature landscaping
Along the neighborhood’s curving street pattern, single-story homes sit on grassy lots. With most properties built in the 1950s, this established neighborhood of ranch-style houses offers buyers mature, shady trees and landscaped yards. Prices typically range from about $100,000 to $280,000, depending on the size, age and condition.Outdoor recreation at Garett-Brown and Beal parks
On the east end of Permian Estates, Garrett-Brown Park is a grassy green space within walking distance of some homes. Here, kids can run around the playground while their parents walk on paved paths, teenagers can play games of pick-up basketball on the two courts and friends can picnic on scattered picnic tables and benches. Just outside of the neighborhood, Beal Park is a slightly larger outdoor space with sports fields, a dog park and a lighted skatepark. Folks can fish at Beal Park Lake or visit the Beal Park Community Center. Slated to open September of 2028, the park’s ExxonMobil Soccer Complex will feature over 60 fields to accommodate tournaments in the city and give a permanent home to the Midland Soccer Association.Students zoned for Midland Independent School District
The Midland Independent School District serves Permian Estates. Students can attend Long Elementary School, which is within the neighborhood, before Alamo Junior High School and Legacy Freshman High School. These schools all receive C grades from Niche. Students may graduate from Legacy High, which earns a C-plus and offers dual enrollment courses with Midland College. The high school also has a storied athletic program, having won three state championships in football and serving as the alma mater of a host of professional athletes in both football and baseball. Legacy also counts such luminaries as Tommy Lee Jones and Laura Bush among its former students.Convenient to everyday amenities
Within the neighborhood, residents can dine at Back In The Day Café, a rustic spot with a small-town vibe that serves classic American fare like pancake platters, cheeseburgers, banana pudding and other favorites. JumBurrito is on the other end of Permian Estates. Visitors to this casual Tex-Mex spot can walk up to the counter and order breakfast or lunch burritos, nachos, tacos and more. There are a few international markets surrounding the neighborhood, and there’s a United Supermarkets grocery store about 2 miles northwest. West Illinois Avenue runs along the neighborhood’s northern boundary, and West Wall Street runs to the south. Commercial conveniences line both thoroughfares, ensuring residents can quickly run errands or grab a bite to eat. For medical services, Midland Memorial Hospital is about 2 miles away.5 hours to El Paso and Austin
While limited bus services run along South Midland Drive and West Illinois Avenue, Permian Estates is a mostly car-dependent neighborhood. It has easy access to Texas state Highway Loop 250, which leads throughout Midland, and U.S. Interstate 20, which leads from West Texas to the state’s eastern border and beyond. Just across I-20, there are manufacturing plants, oil facilities and industrial areas. It’s about a 20-mile drive southwest to Odessa, the next town over, where many residents work, shop and dine. “In West Texas, you have to commute everywhere,” Perkins says. “It’s 5 hours to El Paso and 5 hours to Austin, but people don’t think anything about getting on the road and going places.” For air travel, the Midland International Air & Space Port is about 9 miles southwest.
