It has easy access to Texas state Highway Loop 250, which leads throughout Midland, and U.S. Interstate 20, which leads from West Texas to the state’s eastern border and beyond. Just across I-20, there are manufacturing plants, oil facilities and industrial areas. It’s about a 20-mile drive southwest to Odessa, the next town over, where many residents work, shop and dine. “In West Texas, you have to commute everywhere,” Perkins says. “It’s 5 hours to El Paso and 5 hours to Austin, but people don’t think anything about getting on the road and going places.” For air travel, the Midland International Air & Space Port is about 9 miles southwest.
