Affordability bringing in new neighbors
About 2,000 people hang their hats in the Southwest Side neighborhood of Euclid Park. This neighborhood, named after the small greenspace at the northern end of the block, is "very quaint but close to the amenities of the city," says Dawn Kamalian, real estate agent at Shorewest Realtors. A few local eateries and businesses line Euclid Park. Still, homebuyers are heading here for the affordable homes and highway proximity it offers. Positioned on the outskirts of Milwaukee before reaching more suburban neighborhoods, Euclid Park is moderately densely populated but still has plenty of space for getting outside.

Ranches for first-time homebuyers
Euclid Park was part of a significant housing boom after World War II. The development in the middle of the century brought many ranches, Cape Cods and bungalows to the half-gridded, half-winding streets along rows of mature trees. Owners of the neighborhood are "primarily working-class families that have lived there for 30 years. However, they're transitioning to families and first-time homebuyers who want to live close to the city," Kamalian says. Most homes have detached garages and just enough yard space for a small above-ground pool or garden plot. They can be found anywhere from $100,000 to $300,000, while a handful of two-story, new constructions from the early 2000s reach prices in the low $400,000s.

Walking trails and shaded nooks
Clusters of tall trees border and speckle the titular park of the neighborhood, giving residents a perfect spot to hang a hammock or picnic beneath their shade. Grassy expanses include a practice baseball field with a chain-link backstop, and a small patch of concrete in the southwest corner features a basketball court and a toddler-friendly playground. "Many residents walk their dogs, and kids bike in on the trail surrounding the park," Kamalian says. The half-mile path bordering the park is home to many feathered friends, and casual birdwatchers can be sure to spot some winged visitors in the tree canopy.
