Suburban neighborhood close to Milwaukee amenities
Johnson's Woods is a small residential pocket on Milwaukee's west side that, for a long time, was nothing but undeveloped land owned by an early resident, Dr. James Johnson. In the early 20th century, Dr. Johnson’s relatives started developing the land. The rest of Milwaukee developed around it, too. Today, Johnson's Woods has some big-name neighbors: American Family Field, Calvary Cemetery, and the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans’ Administration Medical Center are less than a mile to the east; The Milwaukee Mile Speedway and Wisconsin State Fair Park are about 2 miles to the west. Johnson's Wood's residents get quick access to some of the city’s most popular amenities while enjoying suburban-style streets with single-family homes and manicured front yards.

Bungalows and Cape Cods line the streets
Classic, Midwestern-style homes from the early to mid-1900s fill the tree-filled blocks, including simple, wood-framed constructions from the turn of the 20th century and modest bungalows with covered porches and entryway sunrooms. Cape Cods are also standard, and a few ranch-style homes and duplexes are scattered throughout the neighborhood. Lot sizes can be small, but they're landscaped and green. Sidewalks are abundant, allowing residents to get to nearby amenities on foot. Prices range from $70,000 for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom fixer-upper to $250,000 for a three-bedroom, one-bathroom with recent renovations. As for crime, Johnson's Woods has a rating of 4 out of 10 on the CAP Index, the same as the national average.

Just a couple miles from the Wisconsin State Fair
One of Milwaukee's marquee events is the multi-day Wisconsin State Fair, which brings crowds out to battle the traffic to Wisconsin State Fair Park. But for residents of Johnson's Woods, it's a short walk to enjoy the rides, live entertainment, and, of course, the food, which includes the Fair's signature item, cream puffs. "We make about 400,000 cream puffs in the 11 days of the fair alone," says the park's Director of Public Relations Tess Kerksen. “It’s a representation of the Dairy State. They’ve been around for nearly 100 years now, and we’ve been making them in the same building.”

The Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is about 12 miles southeast of the neighborhood and offers flights throughout the United States.
Bull Shooter Saloon is a popular place to gather
Johnson's Woods is mainly residential, so locals head a few miles east to West Greenfield Avenue and Miller Park Way to shop at big box stores, including Walmart, Target and Cermak Fresh Market. While there, shoppers can grab a bite to eat at the chain restaurants or head back home to Bull Shooter Saloon, a neighborhood favorite for its robust collection of drinks, sandwiches and a Milwaukee-style Friday fish fry. Residents can also join the Bull Shooter Dart League, which takes players to tournaments nationwide.
