Midcentury homes and a close-knit feel draw residents
Midcentury ranch-style homes make up the majority of the neighborhood’s real estate, with the occasional Cape Cod or colonial appearing. Details like hardwood floors, bow windows and built-in cabinetry are common. However, many homes have been updated with open-concept layouts and beamed ceilings. The median sale price is in the low $300,000s, with homes ranging from the mid-$200,000s to the low $400,000s. This generally puts the Wedgewood in the same price range as nearby neighborhoods like Rolling Green, Highwood Estates and River Bend, though it tends to be more expensive than Hawley Farms and Root Creek.
"In the spring and summer, it's beautiful with the trees and the foliage," says Alderman Mark Borkowski, a longtime resident of Wedgewood. "People are always walking with strollers, walking their dogs or going for jogs." He also says the feeling of community keeps residents here for decades. "These people look out for one another," he says. "My neighbors know me more than I know about myself."
