The land of milk and honey
Minco was the last stop on the Oklahoma railroad in the late 1800s, leading the small town to become a bustling epicenter of commercial activity. While its railroad days are mostly in the past, Braum's Dairy Farms and the Ross Honey Plant, Oklahoma’s largest honey-producing facility, sit nearby. Locals display bumper stickers emblazoned with the town’s nickname, “The land of milk and honey.”
Everybody knows everybody in this town, and everybody takes pride in the Minco High Bulldogs football and baseball teams. “We play them in our sports and travel there sometimes,” says Sheri Phillips, Realtor with Choice Realty Metro Brokers of OK. She’s a longtime resident of nearby Dibble and sells homes throughout the neighborhoods near Norman. “It’s a smaller town, but bigger than a super rural place like Dibble. And it’s got a little more convenience, more store choices to it.”
Minco homes: Make it your own
Bulldog paw prints lead locals all over town, through Main Street and past homes built in the early 1900s. Time-tested Tudor Revivals stand tall on several acres, and brick and stone bungalows boast tidy yards, carports, and front porches ripe for greeting neighbors. A brick ranch style home with a metal roof and plenty of garden space will go for $150,000, while a National Folk home with a fresh layer of paint will go for $175,000.
Most of the time, those looking to become a Minco local will need to build their way up, literally. Plots of land in the center of town and on the outskirts are available, some of which are dotted with ponds and mature oak trees. Folks can snag half an acre in town for just over $50,000, 2 acres surrounded by farmland for $75,000, or invest in vast expanses for $500,000 and up.
Even in the "populated" areas of Minco you will find plenty of space.

Shops and restaurants packed with regulars
“Minco is a bigger community than others nearby, but it’s still considered one of our small ‘country living’ towns,” Phillips affirms. “It’s not quite like Tuttle or Newcastle.” No place in the area embodies the interwoven nature of Minco living like Downtown Minco. Sid’s Diner off Highway 81 is often full of locals looking to dish with their neighbors and enjoy a burger and fries. Other boutique retailers like Petals and Pinecones line the main street stretch.

Bulldog pride
Kids go to class with the same group of peers from kindergarten through high school graduation. Minco Elementary School earns a B-plus from Niche, while Minco Middle School earns an A-minus. Paw prints are stamped on sidewalks and walkways throughout town to show support for the Minco High School Bulldogs; Friday night games are community events in their own right. The high school earns a B from Niche.

Baseball, football and park visits
Bill Johnson Park’s playground and disc golf course encourage locals to get moving, while the Veteran’s Memorial and gazebo provide a pocket of peace. The Little League Ball Fields and Minco High School football, baseball and softball fields are quite busy during their respective seasons.

Enjoying the Minco Honey Festival
December is extra sweet for Minco residents. The Minco Chamber of Commerce sponsors the annual Minco Honey Festival each winter, where dozens of craft tables, tours of the Ross Honey Plant and a quilt show entertain locals and guests alike. Visitors walk home with quality Oklahoma honey and other Made in Oklahoma products.
Minco is known for it's Honey Festival the first weekend in December.

From Minco to OKC and beyond
U.S. Route 81 cuts past Minco’s downtown and leads 20 miles south to Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha. Drivers have a 38 mile trip on 81 and Interstate 40 to get to Oklahoma City, and a 28 mile trip to Will Rogers Regional Airport. They pass through Tuttle on East Highway 37 to get to the Tri-City Area shopping center in 20 miles.
Supporting Minco’s historical record
The Minco Historical Society’s dedication to recording and sharing their town’s past is palpable. A valuable collection of local newspaper copies dating back to 1890 can be found at the Oklahoma Historical Society in OKC; The Minco Millennium keeps residents in the know on local events to this day. Minco residents are encouraged to continue supporting their Historical Society and to recognize their deep roots.
