Nesconset is a quiet hamlet with a tight-knit community

Nesconset is the epitome of small-town America. This community is one of six hamlets in the Smithtown township in Suffolk County, Long Island. Most residents own their homes and know their neighbors well.

Classic architectural styles and generous yards

Ranch and Colonial Revival style homes dominate the community's housing supply. Homes often have at least three bedrooms and spacious lots with mature trees.

Neighborhood schools are part of Smithtown Central District

Nesconset families are zoned for schools in the Smithtown Central School District, graded an A on Niche. Tackan Elementary School and Great Hollow Middle School are within the neighborhood boundaries and are located 2 miles apart. Smithtown High School East is the nearest zoned secondary school. It is located 2 miles away in the adjacent St. James neighborhood. All three schools are A-rated.

Local outdoor amenities support active lifestyles and social events

Andreoli Park is a community space with a children's playground on Nesconset's eastern border. Just across the road is Gibb's Pond. It has a pier and deck that's great for fishing and observing the area's wildlife. The Smithtown Library Nesconset Building is a community pillar that provides programming and events for children, teens and adults. There are storytime safaris, art lessons and book discussion groups. Next door to the library is the Nesconset Gazebo, a place where the community gathers for live music concerts. There's also a playground, walking trails and a dog park. Local athletes can take advantage of The Sports Arena, a multisport complex on the neighborhood's north side. There are turf fields, a gym and a hockey rink. Its youth and adult sports leagues are a popular way for community members to socialize. And visitors can refuel and unwind at the snack bar and video arcade.

Commercial corridor offers dining, retail and auto sales

Shops and restaurants line Smithtown Boulevard, the community's commercial corridor. Pharmacies, cafes, thrift stores and florists are open for business along this thoroughfare. There's also a wide selection of restaurants along the boulevard, such as Asian-fusion, farm-to-table and fast-food joints. In the northeastern corner, a variety of major car dealerships provide local employment and boost the economy. Area dealers specialize in American, foreign, luxury and electric vehicles.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
