Before construction began in 2021, The Trails in New Caney was just 1,400 acres of woodlands 40 miles north of Houston. In a way, it still is. While around 200 homes have been built since first breaking ground, the master-planned development has prioritized walkability and outdoor recreation with multiple on-site amenities and around 600 acres of green spaces. “It’s going to stay green, and the developers created miles of natural trails that go through the woods all the way down to the river,” Coventry Homes sales counselor Rachelle Roberts says. “It’s going to be a very nice, quiet community in Harris County.”
From Falcon Ridge Elementary to Hargrave High
The Trails is zoned for Huffman ISD, which serves over 3,000 students and earned a B on Niche. Falcon Ridge Elementary is one of the newest schools to join the district and earned a B on Niche, while Huffman Middle has a Gifted & Talented program and earned a B-minus. Hargrave High School has a 98% graduation rate and also earned a B. Some land has also been set aside for a proposed on-site school on the east end of the community.
Resort-style amenities and 600 acres of green space
The crown jewel of The Trails’ outdoor amenities is the resort-style pool, which comes with several lounge chairs and canopies for extra shade. The splash pad directly next to it will have fountains and jet streams for families to play in together, while the adjacent playground and amenity center can be reserved for small events and gatherings. The park area is found west past the homesites close to the East Fork San Jacinto River. Its many trailheads reveal features such as trees, ponds and foliage, while local fauna includes deer, foxes and rabbits. “There’s a lot of wildlife out here,” Roberts says. “Just having the green and those walking trails is a huge draw. Plus, the pool doesn’t hurt either.”
The Shops at Plum Grove and Valley Ranch Town Center
There are several proposed spaces for on-site commercial and retail south of the community by the intersection of Grand Parkway and Plum Grove Road. Outside of the community, the closest shopping center will be 9 miles west in the Valley Ranch Town Center, which is anchored by a Cinemark theater and has the closest grocery stores and 24-hour hospitals.
Five builders constructing around Cross Pines Drive
There are five builders working within The Trails, including Chesmar Homes, Coventry Homes, Lennar, Village Builders and Westin Homes. “We build everything from three-bedroom, two-baths with 1,500 square feet up to five-bedroom, three-to-four baths with 3,200 square feet,” Roberts says. “We have quite the range in sizes and pricing.” Traditional and contemporary homes with energy-efficient amenities will range between $200,000 and $350,000, while larger homes with multiple stories and bedrooms will range between $350,000 and $600,000.
Driving down State Highway 99
State Highway 99 is directly south of the community and connects 16 miles southeast to Dayton and around 8 miles west to New Caney. “We’re right off of the 99, which will take you pretty much anywhere,” Roberts says. “Everything is 10 minutes away.” Going 12 miles south on Huffman Cleveland Road will take visitors to Lake Houston, while the George Bush Intercontinental Airport is around 22 miles southwest.
