Two distinct subdivisions in Easton for diverse living experiences
Easton’s appeal comes from its established homes and central location in the Virginia Beach metro area. Perched by the banks of the Elizabeth River, it’s comprised of two subdivisions: Easton Forest, the tree-heavy community east of Interstate 64, and Pleasant Point, with waterfront homes just west of the highway. “It's very close to the line between Norfolk and Virginia Beach,” says Lauren Conner, a Norfolk local and real estate agent with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services. “And it’s close to the interstate, so it makes a great commute.” At the southeastern end of Norfolk’s city limits, folks can conveniently shop within the city — or in neighboring Virginia Beach after only a few minutes' drive.
Easton Forest has postwar homes; Pleasant Point offers larger custom properties
Easton Forest on the northeast side has single-family Craftsman homes and postwar brick ramblers, priced from around $250,000 to $440,000. Streets in this subdivision are narrow with few sidewalks but are lined with pine trees, giving off a forested suburban feel. Tide Light Rail runs through this part of the neighborhood, so light train noise might be heard by residents along Curlew Drive. “As you approach the neighborhood itself, the stock is smaller, but once you get further south, the homes get larger,” Conner says. To the southwest is Pleasant Point, where the streets are wider, and, though there are fewer trees, sidewalks are consistent. Homes in Pleasant Point are more expensive, going from roughly $450,000 to $885,000. Designs include larger brick Colonial Revivals, Craftsman houses and custom homes.

Access to I-64 and Tide Light Rail trains from the neighborhood
Interstate 64 runs through the neighborhood, so locals have direct access to Richmond and cities across the Hampton Roads region. Commuters can also catch a Tide Light Rail train into downtown Norfolk from Newtown Road Station, located in Easton Forest. Norfolk International Airport is about a 5-mile drive north along Kempsville Road, offering domestic flights and seasonal flights to Puerto Rico, with direct international flights expected to come to terminals soon.
Locals minutes away from shopping in Norfolk, Virginia Beach
The neighborhood is within a few miles of shops and restaurants in both Norfolk and Virginia Beach. “Locals shop in both cities,” Conner says. “It’s close to downtown Norfolk with its rich culture; there’s the theater, Chrysler Museum [of Art] and Norfolk Botanical Garden.” Norfolk’s nearby shopping centers and strip malls host restaurants like Ichran Japanese Ramen, which offers chicken katsu curry and barbecue calamari, and Virginia’s only Tim Hortons location for a morning coffee and a honey cruller. Norfolk Premium Outlets is a 5-mile drive north, featuring retailers such as Nike, H&M and Old Navy. Five miles east is the Town Center of Virginia Beach, where locals can browse Walmart, Food Lion and The Fresh Market for groceries or dine at The Cheesecake Factory or Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar.

Kayaking down the Elizabeth River, activities in Downtown Norfolk
Carolanne Farms Neighborhood Park to the east features a canoe and kayak launch for locals who want to explore the river, along with a wood pier and small nature paths. “The Elizabeth River leads to wonderful watersports,” says Conner. “[Folks can] take the river to the Chesapeake Bay.” To the west is Poplar Hall Park, where folks can play disc golf, softball or basketball. Residents can head downtown and tour the Chrysler Museum of Art for free. The museum has 50 galleries and a glass art studio. There’s also the Norfolk Botanical Garden, with azaleas that bloom in April and hundreds of rose varieties.
