Waterside community long popular with the military
Set along the picturesque banks of the Elizabeth River, the charming Norfolk, Virginia, neighborhood of Ingleside offers residents a combination of history, waterside location and convenient access to downtown attractions. "Lots of military people move to the Norfolk area to be close to the naval bases," says Sara Vaughn, a Realtor with Exit Realty. "Ingleside, in particular, is a popular place because you're also close to the water and shopping." Ingleside found itself thrust into the spotlight during the 1950s when the demand for post-World War II military housing soared, and Norfolk experienced a period of rapid growth and development. To accommodate the rising population, Ingleside was annexed and became an integral part of the city.

There seem to be more events during tourist season for adults, but when it comes to children there seems to be more to do in other areas.

Very great neighborhood I've grew up here ever since i was young and id say its pretty safe, there are many good people here and the civic league hosts a multitude of community events such as festivals and clean ups, the elementary school here is nice and the teachers are really great. Overall really nice place but the rec center could use improvement and renovation.
