Coastal living and urban convenience
In 1749, a storm shaped a landmass, now known as Willoughby Spit, named after Thomas Willoughby, a prominent Colonial Virginia merchant. Today, Willoughby, a beach community, sits between the Chesapeake Bay and Willoughby Bay. With its waterfront setting and proximity to amenities, like its restaurants, the subsection of Ocean View offers a perfect blend of nature and convenience. From parks, fishing piers, and access to the beach, there is plenty for locals to do. The neighborhood also has diverse housing options.
Casting lines on Willoughby Bay
At 1,700 feet, the Ocean View Fishing Pier is the longest pier in North America. It extends over the tranquil waters of Willoughby Bay, where anglers cast their lines in hopes of reeling in bluegill, white perch, and walleye.
Captain's Quarters Park, near the I-64 bridge in Willoughby Spit, offers a serene retreat for nature enthusiasts. The park attracts anglers and birdwatchers with its waterfront access to Willoughby Bay. Despite the bridge's backdrop, you can look for various bird species, including Laughing Gulls, terns, herons, and egrets. The park's sprawling oak trees provide a shady respite for picnickers and families. The park also features a playground for children.
Bay Oaks Park, situated near the waterfront, has 80 oak trees, a walking path and small pavilions. This park also has a playground area for children underneath a canopy.

The public transportation could use some work. There are not enough bus routes in my area. If I could do it all over again, I would live in Harrisonburg Virginia. Norfolk is not a bad place to live, however, i only foresee the area getting worse.
