Conveniently located in the heart of northwest Oklahoma City sits FBIR – Fairdale/Belle-Isle/Riviera – a desirable area with quiet streets, mature trees, charming mid-century homes and an air of nostalgia. "The Belle Isle area is where my parents brought me home from the hospital when I was born. It's a special place to me because I grew up there," says Re/Max First sales associate Melinda Compton. "It's an established neighborhood that has maintained its character and value over the years and continues to be attractive to a lot of buyers."
In FBIR, you'll find a variety of house styles from 1980s condominiums to modern new-builds, but brick ranch-style homes built in the late 1950s and early 1960s feature most predominately. "Homes in that area sell very well," Compton says. "Many of the older homes sold over the last 10 years have been updated and are really popular. They tend to sell quickly." Home sizes and prices range from a 1,500-square-foot three-bedroom selling for $245,000 to a modern new-build priced at $665,000 with around 2,400 square feet and the same number of bedrooms.
Children living in the FBIR area attend Nichols Hills Elementary, rated a nine out of 10 for student academic progress by GreatSchools, for pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. Fifth through eighth graders go to John Marshall Middle School, and older students spend ninth through 12th grades at John Marshall High School, which earns an A-minus for diversity from Niche.
After a long day at school, FBIR kids can enjoy the fresh air and green space near Belle Isle Park, a quiet neighborhood park with a playground, swing set, walking trail, and tennis and basketball courts. If you're a golf lover, the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club, where membership provides access to an 18-hole golf course, dining, tennis facilities, fitness center and event venue. If you prefer a kayak over a golf cart, the beautiful 2,500-acre Lake Hefner is only about 3 miles from FBIR, where you can enjoy water sports, fishing or a peaceful walk along the 9.4-mile Lake Hefner Trail.
"One of the best things about the neighborhood is its location right in the heart of the city near restaurants, shopping and major highways," Compton says. So when it's time to refuel, head to nearby May Avenue, northwest OKC's restaurant and retail corridor, where you'll find many places to grab a bite, like Zorba's Mediterranean restaurant. While at Zorba's, try their version of the classic Greek dish, Moussaka, known to make some diners change their anti-eggplant tune. May Avenue is a great place to quiet a growling belly, and its numerous grocery stores, like Sprouts Farmers Market, and big-box retailers, like Best Buy and Barnes & Noble, make it perfect for quick and easy errand-running. For even more shopping, Penn Square Mall, with its wide selection of department and specialty stores, like Macy's and Michael Kors, and the upcoming Oak mix-use development that will include restaurants, retail and residential options, are conveniently located about a mile from FBIR.
With a fantastic location and charming mid-century ranch-style homes, FBIR could be the perfect place to make some special memories of your own.
