A small town feel with big city amenities
Matthew Matelski has only lived by Lake Hefner for a year, but already feels at home in the quiet suburbs of Oklahoma City. “There’s so much to do,” he explains. “The parks are really nice, it’s safe to jog around the lake and along the trails. The skate park at Stars and Stripes Park is cool, and there are tons of businesses opening up in the area.” The neighborhood of Mayview is comfortably situated in the heart of Lake Hefner’s outdoor recreation scene, just 9 miles from Downtown Oklahoma City. “We have that small town feel with big city amenities,” he boasts.
Comfy chairs on Mayview’s patios
Ranch-style homes and minimal traditional architecture are popular in Mayview, where locals might rely on carports if their homes lack a two-car garage. The occasional veranda or front patio might have a comfy chair or two, overlooking neat, square lawns along streets like N Independence Avenue. Though the average listing price hovers around $250,000, homes can range between $150,000 and $350,000. Those looking for a split level or something with a midcentury modern flare aren’t entirely out of luck, though these properties are rare. For the most part, folks can expect curved streets with ample parking and homes within 20 feet of one another.
Winding through Mayview’s charming streets, spacious lots and mature trees create a serene, park-like setting that residents love to call home.

Lake Hefner’s parks and recreation scene
Mayview’s next-door neighbor, Hefner Park, borders the 2,500-acre Lake Hefner. The park’s baseball fields and playground make it a go-to hot spot on warm weekends. Stars and Stripes Park occupies a peninsula on the lake a mile or so west. Its fitness court, skate park, playgrounds and scenic views are just east of the Lake Hefner Golf Club and Lighthouse. Water recreation on Lake Hefner is also quite popular. Folks can spend an afternoon on the fishing pier, at the Oklahoma City Boat Club, or check out the 9.1-mile Cooper Trail. Smaller parks include Mayview Park and Tinsley Park, both providing playgrounds and green spaces. Residents can also take classes at the International Dance Studio off N Brookline Avenue.
