It all began with the Eagle Creek Golf Course
The central Florida neighborhood of Eagle Creek, located just beyond the banks of Orlando’s Lake Hart, was named for the popular Eagle Creek Golf Course. Built in 2004, the course quickly racked up accolades and the first houses popped up shortly after. Today the community is home to about 2,600 houses, townhouses, and apartments, split into 18 villages. Peter Luu, CEO of Peter Luu Signature Group Premier Luxury EXP Realty, says this is due to a savvy move by Jones Homes, the community’s developer. “Sometime around six or seven years back, they decided to take all the remaining lots back and give it to other builders,” he says, leading to a quick pivot that elevated Eagle Creek beyond a typical cut-and-paste golf community.
Wide-ranging single-family homes and townhouses
Homes in Eagle Creek are townhomes and single-family houses with a distinct Mediterranean influence. “It feels kind of like a California suburban neighborhood, because most of the homes have tile roofs. There are multiple builders, so it doesn’t look so cookie cutter, but it has a very western feel, says David Myers, broker associate at Ziro Realty.
Though facades vary, neutral colors and front-facing garages are popular. Practically all homes have two- and three-car garages. Single-family homes come in different styles: craftsman, contemporary, prairie and ranch can all be seen on the same street. Townhouses vary architecturally as well, from attached villas with Mediterranean accents to three-story contemporary designs.
Some townhouses have garages in the back, with street parking out front. Single-family houses can range from about 1,800 to nearly 4,500 square feet. These homes range from $530,000 to $1.5 million, with the smaller, older homes on the low end. Townhouses range from $390,000 to $570,000. HOA fees are $160-$445 monthly, with townhouse owners paying on the higher end.
Highly-rated Lake Nona High School
Eagle Creek is served by Orange County Public Schools, which participates in the choice program. Students here can attend Eagle Creek Elementary School and Lake Nona Middle School, both rated A-minus by Niche. Lake Nona High School has an A rating. The school, built in 2009 as a relief school, is known for its rigor; it has a high AP enrollment and a dual enrollment program through Valencia College.
Dining at the Eagle Creek Center
Part of the neighborhood master plan is the Eagle Creek Center, a business hub right at the main entrance. Here, residents can start their day at local chain Keke’s Breakfast Cafe, which has classic American breakfast options and cocktails in a casual dining setting. Next door, Don Julio Mexican Kitchen has a menu full of Mexican dishes and drinks with outdoor seating and the option to create a combo meal. They also have a tequila and ceviche bar, giving customers the option for more customization. Curious Cork Wine & Provisions is a new wine, craft beer, and small plates venue that offers 64 self-pour taps and over 200 wines, along with sommeliers to provide expertise. Publix is located at the Lake Nona Plaza and Bravo Supermarket and Aldi are just outside the neighborhood at Narcoossee and Tyson Roads.
Nearby Lake Nona's parks and activities
While the neighborhood’s main recreation is its central golf course, in the neighboring Lake Nona region, several pocket parks, lakes and trailheads are less than 3 miles away. The Laureate Park Zipline Playground, which has an extensive zip line and slide setup for kids age 10 and under. Ribbon Park is a meticulously manicured and dog-friendly park that connects to trails all around the residential area. Boxi Park Lake Nona at the Lake Nona Town Center is a huge outdoor venue made out of shipping containers that has a mix of restaurants and beach volleyball courts, as well as an outdoor stage. Luu says that Lake Nona Town Center is always holding events, and residents can expect to see more live acts and even LPGA tournaments forthcoming. Nona Adventure Park is an multifaceted obstacle course and water park with an on-site restaurant for fun for all ages.
Ten miles from Orlando International Airport
Eagle Creek is reachable by bus with a few stops along Narcoossee Road, although traffic has generally increased on this street due to development. Traveling north leads to Route 417, the Central Florida GreeneWay toll road. Florida’s Turnpike is about 13 miles west via Route 417. The neighborhood is less than 10 miles away from Orlando International Airport. The nearest hospital is UCF Lake Nona Hospital, which is part of the larger Lake Nona Medical City, less than 4 miles away. “Eagle Creek is popular with quite a few of the doctors that work in Medical City, and they like that they can be on call without having to go to far,” says Myers.
