Massac has top-rated schools near a shopping corridor in Paducah

Massac is a suburban community on the outskirts of Paducah with access to major stores. It is part of the A-rated McCracken County School District. “Some of the best schools are in the Lone Oak area,” says Cindy Jones, Realtor with Exit Realty Key Group, who has been working in the city for over a decade. She says that Massac, and the rest of Paducah, “has a small-town atmosphere. It’s a very friendly town with low crime and great schools. It’s a great place to start a family.” Massac receives a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.

Ranch-style homes and other houses move off the market quicky

Oak trees dot the grassy lawns along Massac’s winding roads. Most properties are at least a quarter-acre in size, with long driveways and one-car garages. “It’s a very eclectic part of the city,” Jones says. “The homes out there, they are all different.” Most residences date back to the mid-20th century, including split-levels, Colonial Revivals and ranch-style houses. One exception is the homes in Coleman Place and the surrounding subdivisions, where sprawling brick New Traditionals from the 1990s and early 2000s are common. Prices generally range from $140,000 to $380,000, although properties in Coleman Place and its neighbors can cost between $450,000 and $630,000. “Homes don’t stay on the market there for very long,” Jones says. The average time on the market is 40 days, faster than the national average.

Top-rated schools include Lone Oak Elementary School

Students can start at Lone Oak Elementary before attending Lone Oak Middle School. Both earn an A from Niche. McCracken County High School receives an A-minus. The MCHS Career Pathways include Fundamentals in Teaching and the Culinary and Food Services. The district offers school choice through Change in School Assignment forms.

Major highways connect Massac to downtown Paducah

While the Paducah Area Transit System Red Line stops along Lone Oak Road, most residents drive themselves. They can take U.S. Route 62 about 7 miles to downtown Paducah. The highway also connects with Interstate 24, which leads about 140 miles to Nashville. Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital is about a 3-mile drive. Barkley Regional Airport is about 7 miles away and offers daily flights to a larger hub with more connections.

Shops and restaurants line Lone Oak Road

Shops, restaurants and services line Lone Oak Road. Besides some fast-food restaurants, Jones says, “There are some mom and pop, independently owned restaurants like Cass, a sandwich shop that is very popular.” It also sells cakes, pies and other desserts. The menu at Los Amigos Mexican Restaurante includes fajitas, tacos and enchiladas. Further down the road is the Purple Toad Winery & Distillery, the largest winery in Kentucky, which has over 50 wines and 10 spirits. Locals get their groceries from Banks Market. Walmart and Home Depot are less than 5 miles away.

Locals travel to Paducah parks like Bob Noble Park

Massac residents travel for recreational activities, with one exception. The Lone Oak Ballpark, home of the Lone Oak Youth Baseball and Softball Association, has seven fields for all levels, from T-ball teams to high school. Bob Noble Park, located about 5 miles away, is a sprawling 135-acre park that offers amenities including a playground, swimming pool, skate park, and athletic fields. It connects with the Greenway Trail, a multiuse trail that spans over 5 miles across Paducah, connecting a handful of community parks and leading downtown.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
